Good insights. I haven't taken advantage of note taking up until now. It is a great resource and could potentially make all the difference in a game.

You might want to check out this thread Player notes

On a personal note, I've found that making decisions based solely on your notes is a bad idea, but they are a great help in making marginal decisions.

Until quite recently, I only used the poker room notes facility ery infrequently. However, as the facility is there it seems stupid not to make use of it. So, over the past 2 or 3 weeks I’ve started to use it more often. At present, I mainly use it to build a better idea of illains likely preflop raising range. For example, one player in particular I have noted seems to raise from any position with a suited ace, plus the standard premium hands. Of course, it’s possible to put a player on a likely range based just on the frequency of their PFR, but having the notes there I find it quite useful when deciding how to act on their raises.

I would not want to make copious amounts of notes as I’m concerned that could be counter productive. However, I would be interested to hear if others use the note taking facility and what they use it for.

Regards

Boltneck.

I do patterns and if someone does a huge pot raise I'll note it.

mosty do patterns and not specifics hands. i feel like if i put "limps with AA in ep" then i discount the fact that he might actually raise with it occasionally, or limp ep with nothing. i try to stick to betting/raising patterns, a range of hands he will call down with s raising with & when he raises in the game with the nuts/near nuts

I think I may take too many notes...

When I first see players unless they have an obvious style my notes center around the cards they had and the action generated, I don't try to read them at all. For example:

- limps with K9s+, 55+
- limps with KK, built $30 pot DANGEROUS
- Raised 4x with 77 late
- limps late with 78s with 2 limpers
- goes to river with K4o K paired, 14x pot

When I join a table and see players with notes I've made, I take a quick glance through them. If I haven't made any notes on their playstyle I'll read through the hands I've seen, and start notes on their playstyle based on those.

If anyone's got an obvious playing style I'll put that at the top straight away:
- Very LAG preflop
- Weak postflop
- Tricky!!

Most of the time I'll prefix the playing style notes with "seems" unless I'm sure of the read:
- Seems tight
- Seems LAG

If I see someone I can make big money off, those notes go in...

yup, most of mine are noting mistakes:

chased flush or straight against odds
re-raising with middle pair or TP, rag kicker
calling small PPs to the river
min bet/min raise with TP/TK (or better)
slow plays sets
plays any face card
limps from any position
etc.

Sorry if there is something on this already, I did look around.

Something I am sorely lacking in is note taking. Sure I do it but they are not as helpful as I am sure they could be.

What do you put in your notes so they are quick to read but give you the info you need?

I usually add a note when I think I see a pattern, something like: Raises big with marginal hands and raises low with big pocket pairs. OK this one might be a decent note but most of mine are not that great.

Any tips on how to have short and informative notes?

I think Titan also removes buddy list people from time to time.
I've come across people I recognize and know that I added to my list and yet for some reason there is no "shaking hand" next to him.
I need to get better at taking notes.....(kinda back on topic)

I have notes on more than 200 people at Stars, and they stay where I put them. Pokerstars.exe saves them in a file called "notes.txt". At low limits, there are so many players that it takes quite an amount of note-taking before you end up sitting at the same table as someone again. But keep at it, and you'll soon start seeing more and more of your old pals showing up.

It's ery gratifying when you play a hand differently than you normally would have because of a note, and make (or save, of course) money off of it. One of my favorite players is a guy who limps in with 60% of his hands, but raises a small percentage. After about 300 hands with him, it's clear to me that he raises only - but all of - his pocket pairs. I've seen him showdown AK twice, no preflop raise, and I've seen him showdown deuces once - raised preflop. The next note I have on this guy is "when he has a pair, he goes to showdown heads-up" so if he raises preflop, he's going to showdown if I isolate him, no m...

I took notes on alot of players and noticed they were deleted. I know I noted them and didn't understand why they were deleted. I have one certain word I use to describe a player and it isn't ery nice, but thats how I note somebody . Why they get deleted...dunno. Its partyjoker.

I just realized that Titan either has a limit as to how many players you can take notes on, or it deletes your notes after a couple days or a week or something.
Why they wouldn't just make the feature of saving the notes on your PC is a mystery to me, but just thought i'd put that out. I realized it when I was playing in a nightly and realized that one of the players i had previously made notes on no longer had 'em.

Umm, they stay unless the site is really crap or something. Note that if you're playing SnGs the chances of you running into the same opponent twice in a given short period is minimal. With ring games it's a little more likely.

Regarding Stars, check out notes.txt in yer Stars directory.

Kept for all time? Most "Yes" & some "Hopefully". Easily accessable? Half "Yes" & half "No".

Some sites store your notes on your hard drive in a text file to be kept forever. You can actually go into those files and manipulate them as you wish. Others either imbed your notes in your operational files or they keep them on their server so you can only see them in the software and hopefully are kept for the life of your account barring any server accidents.

Can anyone tell me if the notes you write about other players on certain sites are kept for all time or only for the duration of your play until you log out.I only use the notes on a few occasions but i have never came across any of my notes again which might be due to the sites i play as with pokerstars the chance,s of meeting the same person time and time again is reduced because of the numbers there.
I do remember that on pacific they kept your notes in a file on your own computer as i can access this at any time but i was wondering about the other sites.
