harrington on hold'em ol 1,2,3 are excellent books mostly for tourney play but can be applied to ring games, he covers just about everything in the three ol. well written and easy to understand it is on the top of my list

There's so much good poker literature. but those named are def. not books to start with. If your main game is NLHE, Phil Gordon's Little Green Book is a good starter for an intermediate level player, then progress through the Harrington's.

If you're fairly new to the game, and looking for easy to understand "entry level" tournament strategy/simpified theory, Tom McEvoy has wqritten several books that are worth a read.

Really, what to start with depends on where you're starting from, and where you think you want to go.

Like most poker questions, the answer is "it depends."

You really need to provide more background here regarding what games you play (esp. ring s. tourney), and what your level of experience is.

Sklansky is probably a poor choice for a first book (see caveats in link rat provided above). I think SS1/2 is probably the absolute worst choice you could make, unless you are looking for literature on mixed limit cash games or rare draw material.

Don't get Supersystem (or SS 2).
Which one you should get is a question of which part of your game you want to improve most, I think.

The few books that are always recommended are good. It would help to know if you would rather play online or live?

After reading Harrington on Hold Em' Volume I, my game improved a lot. I highly recommend it. However, it's not exactly a beginner's book. I'd say it is more on an intermediate level. If you are new to poker and have never read another book, then the book won't be as helpful. As you read the book you need to actively think, learn, and even possibly take notes. Good luck.

AG has a good list - found here ----> First Poker Books

This also depends on what you normally play ie tourney / ring games as well as your level of poker understanding.

I would recommend Harrington on Holdem... found them excellent.
(Thanks to ChuckTs for that but please read AG's post first
