Doyle, Stu, a couple Phil's, TJ, Danny, Barry, a couple Johnny's all rate right up there. Out of respect I'll go with Doyle's "read" since I have mucho respect for him. We've just lost the best poker player ever
Chip Reese

daniel negraunu is a tricky one. Yes indeed he is one heck of a poker player, but he does get more than his fair share of luck, he does seem to suckout a lot when in all in situations. So although he is probably the best reader in the game, he clearly still puts his money in when behind which obviously isn't world class when you get people like hellmuth who ery rarely puts his money in behind.
Also when it coems to cash games, i have to say kenny tran, seems to run over everyone at every cash table

We will never agree on this! And it is a good thing we don't agree, IMO.
I respect any person who has achieved a lot in their field of expertise, whatever it may be. For example, I respect Tom Hanks for his film-making abilities.
Do I need to say anything more?

I don't watch much poker on TV but from what I've seen I think Phil Ivey is the best I've seen. Ngreaneu (sp?) is good and has a ery good attitude, ery friendly, but I haven't seen anything that makes him look like the best player now, let alone ever. Sure he's ery good, but best?
Sure but the MVP is bases on in the years case offensive statistics. What is the correlation for poker players, tournament cashes, ring game money won? A lot of what makes poker players great isn't measurable in the traditional sense.

Cheetah nailed it, there are a lot of different Bests. I respect the heck out of anyone that can make a living out of poker and be respected/feared by their peers.

Tough to choose, but if I had to it would be Daniel Negreanu.Reason being he is still young(to my standards) and I never seen someone read a table better.

Ungar sucked at life, too true (but damn could he play cards!). Yeah, BG's "no one" is probably the most accurate answer of course.
