If it makes you feel any better (it won't), in about 40K hands at Cake I've only picked up 7 gold cards total.
They definitely drop A LOT more often when they first release a new series, or the beginning of the month.
Pretty sure I got my first 2 gold cards at Cake when I first started playing there (the first week in November). Then I picked up 2 of the other 3 on the first day or two of December, a couple more the beginning of January.
Surprise surprise, it's the first of the month on their servers and I picked up a ton today.
Also, somewhere on their site it tells you that the cards will drop more often at higher limits. Their chance to be distributed is based off the rake taken from the table, so a table that's getting raked $3 every hand will produce gold cards 20x as fast as a table getting raked $0.25.

If you get gold coins faster it could be indication that the bonus clears faster also...... well it was for me when i cleared at 3x
Edit: it clears are regular rate on Red Star..... Can't check at Cake.... don't have anymore bonus
The gold card thing is sort of a gimmick but a decent one. The cards are randomly distributed (sort of) once a certain amount of rake has been generated at a table. The low cards are MUCH easier to get than the big cards. They sometimes have freerolls for holders of specific cards and a daily lottery where you can cash in certain combos of cards for cash. Biggest card I ever got was a Qs.

I got two in less than 45 minutes and at least 4-6 others were awarded on both the tables where I was sitting (for 10- 14 total cards, I think). Now I tend to play medium stakes (for the cake network anyway) so the cards distribute faster than low and microlimits but there's definitely something going on.
ALSO, I'm pretty sure the coins are accumulating faster too. I assume this may all be part of a series 3 promo (or a series 2 going away party?) but I couldn't find any info on whether this was a promo or not.
Anyways, just thought I'd share.
