There are a number of odds calculators out there. When I first started playing, I bought something called Poker-Pal. Basically, it calculates the chances of hitting your outs and also purports to give you odds on whether your hand will win or not. I used it for a ery short time, but would definitely not recommend that (or anything similar) for several reasons.

1) It could make you lazy, and that can never be a good thing. It's easy enough to work it out for yourself, so get into the habit at the outset of working it out yourself. The easiest way for a novice is to count your outs, then double it. The result will be your odds of hitting one of your outs. So, if you have 2 overcards that's 6 outs. Your chances of hitting one of them on the next street is therefore approximate 12%.

2) These programs are not ery clever, and will often mislead you. Lets say you have AJo and the flop comes 89T. The odds calculator will show that you have 12% chance. If you were getting pot odds of 10:1 you m...

Poker Office is another program similar to PT, it only has 300 hand free review however and it is more expensive.

But whereas PT requires another program for a hud, Poker Office includes its own livetracker hud and poker odds calculator.

If you want an all in one i recommend Poker office, if you just want to analyse your stats after playing i recommend Poker Tracker

Yes, it's an excellent tool. I will go so far as to say that it's indispensable to serious players.

Pokertracker basically records every hand you play, including your opponents cards should they show or the hand gets to showdown.

This information can be sorted in numerous ways. You can go over hands where you lost the most amount of money, you can see the % of time you are oluntarily putting money in the pot, how often you raise, you can see how well you are doing with any given hand (aces, for example), or how you are doing in different positions (button, big blind, etc.). Pretty much any stat you can think of is reviewable.

PT also makes for an excellent bankroll tracker.

I have been trying to learn as much as ...

G'day All

I have been doing some research on this forum and on the net, and as far as poker programs are concerned, it appears that people have a ery high opinion of Poker Tracker.

I have been trying to learn as much as I can about poker tracker, however I am struggling to fully understand how it works. I have only recently started playing poker, so I want to concentrate on my basic poker skills before purchasing any program, however at the same time, it cant help to research programs in the meantime.

Is Poker Tracker a a program that has benefits during play, or is it more of a program that allows you to analyse your peformance and history after the game?

Does Poker Tracker provide you with live percentages of your hand winning, and live odds, considering the size of the pot and the number of competitors etc?

Also, are there online poker sites that offer live odds and percentages as part of their normal play, or do you need a seperate program such as Poker T...
