For analysis of your own stats, you will probably want something like 10K hands min. Smaller sample might give examples of serious leaks but the bigger the better. You should also be checking out the poker tracker site as it is where you can find quicker answers faster. This is a real problem with the PT freebie as I think it only saves 1000 hands.
Keep in mind that a completely new ersion of PT is deep in the works, it went alpha testing early December, and may be close to beta any day now.
I did the trial ersion, got little out of it (my fault not PT's) and decided that I want to wait for the next ersion.

ok so I think I wanna buy this program to help me manage my bankroll and understand where I am losing profit and where I am gaining the most. I know quite alot about computers and such but this program seems hard to understand. I have not researched it alot yet but is there a guide with it that allows the parts of it to be figured out fast?
Also
I am assuming PT is the program i see in most ideos where the numbers are next to people and the program people use to post their graphs and when they talk about the BB/hour?

This is the first year I basically relied on the stats of PT. Had a terrible year, and stopped using it about a month ago. Now finding myself working on a come back. Some people swear by it. I felt it made me loose focus I my real talents. Many players games improve and PT slow to recognize.

as mentioned in another thread started by ChuckTs, a new 3.0 ersion is probably going to be released in the next couple of months. It looks to make some ery critical improvements to the current ersion. I'm personally waiting to buy the new ersion for Hold 'Em. I currently own the Omaha ersion.

poker tracker is a hand analysis tool that allows you to determine where you are making good / bad plays as well as analysing other players.
I do find it a bit overwhelming as it provides a great deal of information

Does anyone find either hand history programs like PT or interface programs helpful for MTTs? I've never tried it for that. The situation is so different in each hand, I wonder if it makes any sense to analyze it that way.

(from a techies point of iew) The data in pokeroffice is MsQL compliant and I have it linked into a "homebrew" database to link my full stats from all sites (one feature it annoyingly doesnt have) and plot items such as bankroll transferrance (site to site), relative profit margins on cash and tournament play on different sites etc. etc.
The PT data i never did play about with in too much detail as the interface was a bit "crappy" for my likings, but if you are into your data manipulation (and I am, how sad) then try pokeroffice, cant... | | Read Entire Entry |

I totally agree - I am a pokeroffice convert, as I hated having to use plugin scrape tools and other such things with PT... (not sure if you still have to, havent looked at it for about a year)
it is more expensive, but it is 100000% worth it. Ive been using it now since ersion 1.0, and its the ONLY piece of internet software that I am happy paying for to be honest, I have saved myself the $80 cost countless times over......
download it and try it for free for up to 500 hands - it is a bit daunting at first but when you get used to the data its worth its weight in gold.

I really like the look of PokerOffice, it's $80 but they'll give you a free licence if you start a cash account with their bonus code. I'm about to move over to Titan just to take advantage of that offer & get me the program for free.
Personally PokerOffice looks like it's going to be easier to use, although I work in IT the PokerTracker website put me off, I can see the program being fiddly to learn and I just can't be bothered.

It is quite daunting to start with.
10 minutes of reading and 10 minutes of fiddling about with it and you're generally set, though.

There's nothing unusual there. Lots of software providers do this so you can test it out. They safeguard their product by limiting it in some way. In the case of PT, they only allow you to parse 1000 hands before you're required to pay for the product. When you do so, they will e-mail you an activation code which removes the 1000 hand restriction.
If you're thinking about using PT in the future, or even if you don't, I recommend saving all you're hand histories. I didn't start using PT until this past summer, but because I had saved all my HH's I immediately had a database of 20,000 hands or so going back almost a year. It would have been more, but because I play at Full Tilt Poker, most of the hands I played for the first year were deleted from my hand history folder after 30 days. This is the default setting determined by Full Tilt Poker, but you can change this at any time by ... | | Read Entire Entry |

You'll save more than $55.00 just in the time you spend fooling around with PT rather than losing money at the tables.
But seriously folks... it's well worth it if you want to improve your game, and you can download the complete program free. It's only limited by the number of hands you can store in your database. 1000 I think. Not nearly enough to do any good, but plenty good to see how the software works.

should i loosen up a bit??????
lol, was testing poker tracker, so called with nearly every hand.
flopped a straight with the 54, guy had raised it 4xBB.
flop comes 632, i put him on high cards, he bet big on flop, i reraised him, after that he waited for me to bet on turn and river.
he had JJ
he wasnt happy.
thanks for the heads-up FP, this software is awesome
think Im gonna like the cash tables. never played them much before, everyone bets with killer hands, AA,KK,QQ, etc, I prefer 84os, and 54os.
lol

Finally, you can use it to datamine. To do this, open PT and open (as an observer) 3 or 4 tables at the limits you`re going to play. Then go and get a coffee. Come back in half an hour. PT will have analysed the play at the tables and you can take a seat at one of them armed with a read on the opponents, right from your first hand.
You`re not stupid, m8, but PT is ery complex. Definitely read the help files, search for relevant threads here on CC, and look at www.pokertrackerguide.com
