You don't have enough quality posts to be able to get buy-in passwords. 15 needed.

You can get clues to what other people have from the betting. Sometimes enough and you can fold, sometimes not enough and you lose. If somebody bets or calls, you have to ask yourself, "What hand that called the pre-flop betting would do that?" A set is usually in the mix. If you have a set and somebody has a bigger set, the tell is usually when they take all your money at showdown.

I just knew this was going to be, "I can't find the passwurd enywere!"

I usually find that the mega out of proportions re-raise or even all-in in response to your initial raise with TP is usually a pretty good tell that something is fishy, and its usually a set or the rag-rag 2 pair.

Max it sounds like your close. And yes you do want to play tight in the early stages, but I wouldn't live by it. Try and adjust your game to your table,if it's a tight table..loosen up and ice ersa. And you need to loosen up in the later rounds, if your stack will allow you to.Hang in there...it sounds like your close

I always had this problem, still do to a certain extent, i think the key change in my play which helped the most was restealing, this is especially true in the later parts of a mtt, for an example say average stack is 40000, bb2000, and you are in big blind, with 48000, and a 54000 stack who you have seen doing many positional steals (1-2 an orbit) raises 3*bb from the hijack, just shove allin with any two cards, more often than not they will fold, as they dont want to tangle with another above average stack. Don't do this to any stacks which are about below average, as most of these should be pushing allin preflop, so the standard raise by them signifies strength and will be called.
choose the people who you are going to steal off wisely as well, usually average stacks are the best, and don't be scared of pushing all your chips in preflop straight away, do this a couple of times on a steal, and then tighten up and then do the same when you get a big hand, never do a standard raise with a big hand ...

Perhaps you focus too much on surviving in the early stages of the tournament. If you always go deep that sounds like youīre not taking any significant risks in the beginning. And no risk -> no reward, and the reward - a big stack - is what you need to be able to steal your share of the blinds and keep up with the average stacks as people bust out.

The biggest mistake I make is I start to play tight towards the end, so even if I have a good stack the blinds eventually eat it away. The times I did good I played alot looser at the end being more agressive. Basically play tighter in the beginning, play a little looser in the end. Don't turn into a maniac theres some skill involved

i guess it would depend where you are as far as your chip stack is concerned, this is where i usually go out also when i am shortstaked because the blinds start to eat at you and sooner rather then later you have to come to a decision to throw your chips in before your too far behind the rest of the pack.

Then on the other hand i cruise when i have a big stack knocking people out right and left, so it's a bit of a jam for me to i guess so don't worry your not alone , my suggestion would be to just try and continue playing your best poker, there's no point in doing a major deviation from the game you play if it got you this far into the Tourney.

One thing you can do is look at how your playing compared to when you started are you looser/tighter? if things seemed to have changed see what you can do to get you into the mindset that you were at the start of the Tourney, I'm not that well "seasoned" as other posters here :P but that's my advice that i wish i would take .

What we do is sometimes we start with less chips say 500 instead of 1500 but also we have a cash game going at the same time always, as some don't like the long play in trnys, and everyone playin the tourney style can play also, sort like multi tabling. The early departures still have a game going while they wait, most times they just lost so want some cash game action

Me and my buddies play $20 SNG, we hand out $20 in chips and the blinds start at 0.25/0.50 and double every 15 to 25 mins depending on how fast you want the game. At 20min blinds, the game will take anywere from 1 hour to 1-1/2hrs. We have had 30-min games and 2-hour games. If we have 8-guys then we pay 100/40/20, any less and we only pay top-2, 80/60, 80/40, 80/20 or $80.00 in 4-handed. We usually get in 3-games a night playing from 8:00-12:30 I like it better than a cash game. I have been to other home games but I really like this format, it's gives you a choice of what style you want to play, fast or tight.

Cash game is the way to go here.. You can play for as long as you like, no time constraints.. As long as you don't bust out and have to re-buy you can play all night.. My buddies and I have incorporated a schedule in which we play tournament style one week and cash games the next.. Good system and alot of fun.. I like Great Danes suggestion to a point however I feel that making the blinds increase in 9 minute increments makes it too much of a crapshoot.. It will all come down to who gets the better cards, not how you play the cards you get.. I understand that he is making a suggestion which follows the parameters that you mentioned but it just seems like the winner would be left up to luck more so than skill.

If you want to play a tourney, give this a go :-

Starting chips 2000 each
Starting blinds 50/100

Blinds double every 9 minutes

No tourney will last longer than 45 mins

Yeah me and my buddies play that 1500 chip, $5 buyin format alot. I can't stand it, when you get eliminated we've had HU for an hour + in a 5 person $5 game. I much prefer to just play cash game, if you play .25/.50+ you can lose alot of money. I would recommend just playing .10/.25 NL cash game with a $20 buyin (10 .10 chips) (1 $5 chip) (16 .25 Chips) (10 $1 chips) . The buyin usually lasts a long time and aslong as it's not an all in fest noone should lose more than $40, $60 tops. Pretty good cash game format, I play it often. Or if you want to mix it up you could buy one of those little books with all the random games like blind mans bluff, jacks or better and just play dealer's choice that's always fun.

You could play a rebuy? If you have enough chips, you could play a $3 rebuy or something like that. It pushes the chip stacks up too, you just need to remember to increase the blinds on a shorter level, like say 10 mins or something

All buy in for $5 and play for 45 minutes max. Chip leader at this time takes the money.

Thanks

The easiest thing to do is have the blinds increase in a short period of time. Either raise the blinds every time the dealer button goes around once around the table or every X minutes.

Does this sound ok or has anyone got a better idea. This way you do not have to wait a long time should you get busted

It sounds like a cash game would be much more fun. If you'll only play the tournament for 45 minutes I don't think a cash game would be all that differeant anyways.

u might want to consider just playing a cash game (5 hours is a great time limit for such a thing and that way no one ever has to sit out), unless you're really committed to playing tournament style, in which case, people are bound to have to sit out for awhile. your idea for a 45 minute time limit is fine though, i suppose, if everyone agrees to it, though it really probably wouldn't be enough time for such a game unless you run a really fast blind structure

im sorry but i didnt know where to post this, i saw the page then signed up but i cant get back to the right page

I played a card game the other day but i never found out the name

One person made three(i think) rows of cards all face down:
first row had 3
second row had 4

Each person could remove any amount of cards from one row of their choice
(Its 2 player)

the object was not to take the last card

Does anyone know the name of this game?

Personally, that river card wouldn't be seen unless someone called my all-in bet on the turn. I would have been all-in by then. Sticking to the situation at hand though you fold no question. Slow play is ok for the flop to a point, but never at the turn.

you better bet that I would fold if it was a full table of ten to begin with. Way to many people love going all in aith just one ACE. A 2 A3 etc.... and Jacks are pretty common cards to see people bet with too!!!
