Thanks Freeze. I think that is probably the best and simplest approach. I suppose one could do a bunch of complicated math, including an analysis of risk/reward. But I like your approach better.

If I were playing in a non-bonus situation, I would normally gravitate toward a situation where the rake is a smaller percentage of the average pot (i.e., I want to pay less rake, not more). For example, at Party, the rake will be a higher percentage of the pot at 1-2 than it will be at 2-4.

So, when the bonus is introduced, am I better off still looking to pay less rake while lowering the bonus clearance rate, or paying more rake at a faster bonus clearance rate?

I hope that's understandable.

Interesting question. You probably want to maximize your hourly rate. If you had enough hands played at 1/2 and 2/4 to know what your hourly earn rate at those games are then you can add those figures to the hourly bonus clearing rates provided by BW to see which game would earn you more.

$1/2 LHE games usually rake 25c for every $5, which is 2.5BB's.

$2/4 and higher games usually rake $1 for every $20, which is 5BB's.

the lower number of BB's required to induce the minimum rake to count towards the bonus, the faster the bonus will clear. just realize that some sites may not follow this precise schedule, but it's a good guideline to start with.

Usually due to different rake structures and what qualifies as a raked hand.

I'm sure there is a simple explanation for this but can someone please explain to me why according to the Bonus Whoring 101 guide most of the poker bonuses clear at a slightly quicker rate at 1/2 limit than at 2/4-5/10 limit. It seems like after 1/2 the clearance rate drops slightly or sometimes quite a bit until you reach 5/10 or 10/20 and then it starts to gradually quicken again.
