I usually hover around 22%. This weekend I had a disasterous couple of sessions at PokerStars where I saw around 12%.
I have learned to throw away stuff like QJo and K10o in early position and concentrate on the hands that will really make me money.
I enjoy the game and don't enjoy huge swings. I guess my personality is just more suited to limit.

This pretty much sums it up. I have tried NL, but I much prefer limit. I guess I am just a grinder.
Everyone is going to hit the same number of good hands. The winning players at limit are the ones who play good hands aggressively, but more importantly, don't throw money away on bad (or beaten) hands.
When someone new to poker asks me for advice, the first thing I always tell them is that the key to poker is folding in the proper situations.
Don't get me wrong, I think that raising for value, check raising, and the like are important aspects of the game, but unless you are willing to throw away junk the second it becomes junk, you will be at best a break-even limit player.
Yesterday I folded KK on the turn after an A came and there was a bet and raise in front of me. That's a move I never would have made six months ag... | | Read Entire Entry |

There are skills and parts to each game that I enjoy. Alot of people say one you play NL, you will never go back to limit. Well, sometimes it's nice not to have to make any all-in decisions and just play a discipline game. Give the nerves a little rest. I love NL and prefer to play that, but I will still dedicate a good portion of my time to playing limit.

I like to play both just so I can keep my skills up for each and to keep things fresh, but I definitely prefer NL. Skill prevails in a much bigger way there. No better feeling than raising with 99, 2 callers, flop comes K 10 4 rainbow, you bet the pot and they respect it and both fold. Never flies in limit. They respect it because last time you took a big pot with the same raise and bet and showed down pocket kings.
You can have AA thre hands in a row a raise all 3 in limit, win, show them down, and they will still call you all the way down the next time, trying to hit the river on you. In NL, you make them pay DEARLY to draw against you.

How can someone call half their stack with bottom pair when my ace king missed the entire way through? They can't, but in limit they will. Anyways limit makes me crazy, I about put a hole through the wall trying to clear a bonus at crypto today when both my flopped sets got cracked by some dumb junk. Meanwhile they are calling 4 bets the whole way. Anyways, try to learn no limit, you'll be a happier person.

Take Greg Raymer for example, he is well respected on PS and not many people like to challenge him. Then, he goes and lays waste to the field in the WSOP. His image presents itself before the cards are even dealt. I agree if you do get good cards and get out flopped/drawn then yes you are pretty unlucky. I dont understand how people think that any 2 cards are good enough to play. I used to see it alot on Party when I started. I lost AA more times than I won at the NL tables because people thought any 2 cards will win. I was continually taking bad beats and I thought I sucked. I went and played some other sites and realized "hey I aint half bad" because those cards were holding up and my raises were being respected. Party is just a monster you have to adjust to. I have had some really, really big sessions there and some really, really bad sessions, and sometimes both at the same time. I was up around +... | | Read Entire Entry |

Especially at this level. No skill you possess or read about is going to help you when 44 beats AA. When 4 3 off runs down AA. When someone hits runner runner in the pots you are in.
Lets say you see 20 - 25% of flops. You get run down half of those times then you are not going to win consistently.
YOU HAVE TO HAVE CARDS AND FLOPS TO WIN AT THIS GAME!
If you do not I don't care if you are a poker master you WILL LOSE!
