Hell if it is good enough to play it's good enough to raise right(granted we are talking about small pairs 5-J)? Now given you are trying to drive out most of the crap but some crap will still be around. If the flop misses you don't be afraid to check/fold or if the bet is small enough check/call. If the turn misses you then check/fold is the best option. This will set up those bigger pocket pairs that you might get later IMO. If players are smart they will see a pattern to you betting and if you check/call or check fold when you miss then when you hit the check/call then check/raise will totally fuck them up. Last night's session had me scratching my head for most of the night 1. because it was InterPoker and 2. no amt of PF raising was making anyone with what they conceived a good hand go away. I think I threw away KK's and AA's on the turn once apiece b/c I just had that feeling that someone had hit 2 pair (once the player graciously showed he had indeed cal... | | Read Entire Entry |

there is nothing like having pocket 33 with a AQ3 rainbow flop.
and, of course, if there is any betting post-flop when youre holding a small pocket pair with 3 overcards on the flop, fold at once. people lose a lot of money drawing to 2 outters (i.e. not getting away from pocket pairs that dont hit the flop)
small and mid pocket pairs are easy hands to play. its the 10-KK pockets that cause more problems.

In 10 handed I'll limp early in a loose passive table or limp in late with 3+ callers in front of me. Should I raise with hands like 66,77 early?? or just stick with big cards unless there are already a few callers ahead of me??
I haven't played shorthanded tables but it's on my list of things to learn also are there any good books on the subject?? | | Static Link |
| Posted by: Iodine at October 7, 2004, 12:03 pm | | Topic: Playing Shorthanded Forum: Bonus Whores | depending on the players in the game, i loosen up a lot on the 6max tables, sometimes seeing as many as 33% of the flops. the main thing to remember in 6max tables, or any shorthanded games, is that big cards are very very important.
in a full ring game with 4 callers before me, id play a 78s, but id almost never play those 2 in a shorthanded game. in a 6max game, ill often raise a KJo, but id never play those two in a 10 person game (except under very extreme circumstances).
point being, play the biggins in the shorthanded games very agressively and stay the hell away from small and middle cards, even if theyre suited. also, in shorthand, something like an A9 is worth playing, whereas in full ring games, it's virtually never a solid play. Aces are big shorthanded, you'd be surprised at how many pots you can win with A high or middle pair A kicker.

I know the Crypto skins 6 max tables were my bread and butter for a couple of months. Big A's are better in those games than the full ring tables. Also, pocket pairs have won me alot of money too. And as always if you slow play it and lose don't say I didn't tell you to raise it.

I don't play much 6 handed, but I agree with the 10 handed number for sure. I could forsee the shorthanded number being about 30%. Hell, just the big blind is already almost 17%.

To see more flops, do a little more coldcalling.
If I'm playing Party skins my flop % is between 15-35%. IS that absurdly low for these type places. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: beamer908 at October 6, 2004, 1:15 pm | | Topic: Playing Shorthanded Forum: Bonus Whores | This is broad sweeping question and maybe really vague question, but here goes...
What are people's strategies for clearing bonuses at shorthanded tables or maybe even playing shorthanded tables at all.
When I'm playing full games (7-10 folks) and trying to clear bonuses, I play pretty tight. I'm happy to win money, but honestly I'd be happy breaking even, as long as the bonus don't take too long.
I don't think this philosophy works as shorthanded tables. The blinds are too frequent. What *kinds* (non-specific, maybe a few examples) would you play at a shorthaned table but not on a full table? Let's say I'm clearing these at a party skin. For example, I never play J4s, K2o, or 59 at a full game. Now, never say never, i've done some weird shit in my career, but for the most part that holds.
Also, even at a place like Party I've found that I've made the most money playing pretty tight. In order to maximize winnings, SHOULD you loosen up a bit at places like this? | | Static Link |
