Needless to say, right after posting this I got absolutely owned at PokerPlex. Had my worst day ever on a crypto. Damn poker gods. | | Static Link |

Only $20 profit, but of course thats a helluva lot better than -$75. Ive re-read More Hold 'Em Excellence(friend of mine has my SSHE) and also the limit section out of SS2. I'm so happy right now, I sure as hell hope this keeps up. | | Static Link |

So, despite the Absolute bonuses, it beat me in to submission and I'm back at Party.

But several months ago, I took several of the recommendations made already in this thread. I started playing more different sites and different games. The results were better than I anticipated. One, in general, I'd break the slump. But more importantly, my overall poker play improved. Previously, I almost strictly played Hold'em NL. I used a couple of PP bonuses to learn Omaha and found it can definitely be a more profitable game than Hold'em. Fun as well. I started playing SnG's, found these to be very profitable and playing them really improved my overall game. I regularly play in MTT's now as well and have done reasonably well although the overall ROI (based on time) isn't that great.
I would also highly recommend you read Malmuth's Gambling Theory. I believe when you focus entirely on one game, and basically grind, you get into the mode of self weighting gambling strategies which are not the most profitab... | | Read Entire Entry |

It'll get your mind off of the limit slump, get you refreshed, and hell, you might pick up a couple of things along the way!

Try switching sites, get a new look. It'll turn.
Since my slump ended I am up 2 levels now. Instead of whoring two 1/2 tables I'm playing 2 3/6 tables and doing WAY better BB/100 then at 1/2.
I tell ya though playing 3/6 you have to get used to $300 swings! in 1/2 and 2/4 I was about 2.4BB/100 with 3500 hands in 3/6 I'm at 3.61BB/100. Still not many hands but it's nice for now and I have gone through some rough swings.

Over the last 18 months, I've had two different 3-month slumps. This past one (that ended in May) was interesting - I could win everywhere (Crypto, Paradise, Stars, Absolute); but at Party.
You might try different sites or take time off. I'm going to start taking off the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas, since PokerTracker has pointed out that I've had my two worst slumps during that time.

| Posted by: hackermike at June 22, 2005, 1:46 am | | Topic: Diminishing poker skills Forum: Bonus Whores | | i think my problem is that when i play for a bonus i know that i have a "safety net" to fall back on so i play a little differently than i normally would sometimes. also, if i play for several hours in a day, by the end of the session i am burned out and am not paying too much attention to pot odds and shit. i recently moved up to 2/4 at party to work on my game and try to concentrate more and it seemed to work. unfortunetly the bonuses clear much slower at 2/4 (at party at least) so i havent had time to play that limit much. it is possible you are in a downswing that you will pick yourself out of, and it is also possible that because of a downswing of somekind that you are playing differently for fear of losing more money. hopes this helps a little and good luck. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: Baseballer02 at June 22, 2005, 1:20 am | | Topic: Diminishing poker skills Forum: Bonus Whores | | Just wondering if anyone here has just out of nowhere thought that it seemed their poker playing skills have went to shit. For about 4 or 5 months I was consistently beating Party .50/1 for 5BB/100, 1/2 for 3BB/100 and 2/4 for 2.5BB/100. Now for the past couple months I'm -XBB at 2/4 and 1/2, and am down to about 1.2BB/100 at .50/1. I've looked at PT stats, re-read books, had others examine my play, and it seems like I haven't changed my style of play at all, but it's clearly obvious I've taken a wrong turn somewhere. Any advice from fellow whores to help me overcome this? I'm totally lost and am starting to doubt myself as a poker player. | | Static Link |
