Grinder was absolutely on the $$ with his post. Maybe I'll try another post after summer is over and some of the juvenile postings stop. (They'll be too busy throwin' spitwads at their bus drivers).
After all that has happened today, I can't worry about Pocket Groups in Poker. Prayers to the families in London, and a very special one to the Navy SEAL in Afghan...stay strong!

I like to assign numbers to each group (1 through and when I'm done with a session it's a good way to see if I was lucky or just good.
If I win a ton but see I had all #1 hands . . .it's luck!

Anyway, Sklansky's "SSHE" was well worth the money. Maybe I'll just buy the book and try "the hofdaddy approach" with it.

Further, in his book, he dedicates several pages of discussion on each position and how playing the groupings could be played depending upon the circumstances of the table.
These groupings are excellent for someone relatively new to the game, if followed, they should keep you out of too much trouble, particularly if you adhere to the recommendations for what to play in EP. IMHO, that is the mistake I see most newbies make, i.e., failing to understand the incredible importance position plays in Holdem.
As you play more, understanding position and starting hand requirements will hopefully become automatic. You should begin to adjust based upon the looseness of the table you're at, individual opponents, etc. and tighten up or loosen up depending upon the circumstances at the moment.

You can also look at the alterations to those groupings that some Carnegie Mellon students made after running a bunch of simulations
