Hell, I remember the first time I played Omaha8 live and thinking, "God damn it's hard to look at my cards".
haha after playing some much holdem - I still think this when I sit down at a omaha game. I have to look at 2 at a time.
Speaking of tells . . .
CHE, since I like you I'll let you in on mine for the tournament in Deadwood.
If I am betting, I have a monster.
YOu must play like Valhalla
AS long as we are sharing tells - if Dan bets big in the tourney - he is full of shit!!! | | Static Link |

Forum: Bonus Whores | A biggie you can almost always spot is right after they look at their cards, they glance at their chips right away, then back up. It's a fast subconscious tell, but it almost always indicates a monster. The young kids that love to bluff for that "rush" normally give it away by staring you down and trying to control their "rush" too hard. They become frozen most times, it's soooo funny and it makes me laugh everytime I see it. Cus when they suck out and land the nuts on the river they throw their heads back all casual like, "yea, that's how you play this fucking game sucker." Older guys I try to notice their shakes. Normally they slightly shake, when the shaking stops that's normally a giveaway. The biggest thing is to pay attention to the TAGs, you won't get a tell on them, but you can save a lot of money by avoiding them.
At the lower limits though the players are so bad it's really hard to ever be able to pick up anything other than monsters. They play T2 and KQ the same way because they shouldn'... | | Read Entire Entry |

Forum: Bonus Whores | What I know from my live play time is that it can be pretty overwhelming to try and watch everyone. One of the previous posters had it right when they said that you should watch people when you've folded out of a hand. Don't let your attention wander if you're not in a particular hand.
The other way I dealt with the seemingly overwhelming task of reading everyone was to take one type of action and focus on it for that one session. After a couple of hours, you'll start to notice the tells almost subconciously. The human mind is a wonderful thing. Once you get the hang of it, you should just trust your gut. You might see someone reach for their stack out of your periphreal vision and know that you shouldn't limp in.
That's the first tell that I'd recommend that you watch for. Sit at the end of the table and watch everyone before it's their turn to act. Do they reach for their chips? How many do they grab? Are they already starting to muck their hand? I don't know how many blind... | | Read Entire Entry |

When I do that, I end up screaming things like, "He obviously has AK, you idiot! Fold now!"
That's probably why I'm barred from Foxwoods now... | | Static Link |

Yep. I think Harrington says use the couple of guys sitting around you first then after a while spread out to the rest of the table.
Just watch for general stuff, like how fast they go for their stack or how they shuffle their chips. I know one guy COUGHJPCOUGH has a tell that only I know about. I watched him do it a few times on Saturday night alone. I don't get into battles with him when he does it.

| Posted by: blosky2001 at August 16, 2005, 7:52 am | | Topic: How to make reads? Forum: Bonus Whores | Hello all,
I want to get better at getting reads on people. This pertains to both online and live poker play, more for live play actually. When I play online, I can usually target the aggressive, passive, etc and I pay attention to how much they bet depending on position, number of people in pot, etc. Yet when it comes to live play, I have a hell of a time reading people. All of the poker greats say that everyone has a tell and I watch everything and I don't pick up a whole lot. I've read Mike Caro's book of tells and am looking for the indications he describes but I haven't been very successful. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get better at making reads for online or live play? | | Static Link |
