Yes, learn limit. NL requires a skill set that some players will never master but limit doesn't (it requires its own set of skills but almost anyone can learn what they need) and you won't lose as much as you learn how to play limit (and bonuses generally clear almost as quickly). People see NL tourneys on TV and think it's a series of bold moves but there's a lot they don't show you on TV and a lot more novices just don't understand and ring games are a LOT different than tourneys in many respects. Just following the starting hand guidelines alone (strictly) of the books mentioned will immediately turn you into a winning limit player at the lowest stakes (but there is no guarantee of shortterm results).

The two best low limit holdem books have been mentioned, Lee Jones' book and Small Stakes Holdem. Matthew Hilger's book repeats a lot of the same information without as much of t...

i think Lee Jones's book:- winnning low limit hold me is still a good place to start. Its simple to understand and gives you some good basics without gettting too complicated for a beginner.

I don't think you should read any books at all. Most books are written for live play, and are very helpful for that, but online poker is very very different. I suggest you spend 2-3 hours studying your hands in Poker Tracker to improve your game.

If you want to switch to limit, you are delving even more into a completely different game.

Basically, you have to study the exact game you are playing, yet still keep in mind that there will be temporary changes such as when a bonus comes out, or if you decide to play at 5:00 AM.

If you want quick guaranteed $ with no work, just clear the signup bonuses at Party and ex-skins by playing .50/$1 limit and folding everything except overpair and a set.

In addition to the recommendations you got here, you might try looking in the strategy forum as the question of books comes up quite a bit.

i agree Harrington is best. But if u play limit, small stakes holdem is very good. It will also improve your post flop play in nl.

Super systems is the first book you should read. There may be better books, but SS will touch on not only no limit, but limit, 7 card, draw, and razz i believe.

Harringtons books are great.

That said if you are just starting out I wouldn't buy either. Hit up some of the poker web sites on the Web. 2 +2 is where i started. I have read about 10 books but find the info on the web the most usefull. Plus it is FREE. Start winning some cash and then buy the books.

prolly the most read book on the subject is Supersystem by Doyle Brunson, but many people find it to be on the highly aggressive side of the spectrum. I think its great, but i don't play that aggressive myself. I only play NL because that is what i started playing and have played successfully for the past 2.5 years (just started whoring last month and still only play NL). IMHO the best thing i have read on NLHE so far is Harrington on Hold'em I and II. While they are both written for NLHE tournaments, there has not been anything written that explains things so clearly and that gives a better understanding of the NL game, worth every penny.

Hey, so I just cleared my third bonus (the gaming club) but I also d/l Poker Tracker (just the demo) and well i'm a pretty awful player now that I see it. I've been doing very well until I bought into the Gaming Club and I was a losing player but broke even because of the bonus. I think I started doing poorly is because A I'lI just go in on stupid hands and B because I moved up to higher limits to clear the bonus and was not use to the harder game play. So i've decided to do a lot of research, use my new found knowledge on micro limit tables (10- 20 cent NL) and then eventually move up to higher limits when my gameplay improves. So my questions are what's the best book for a low limit NL player and is their any pokerrooms that have bonus' that can be cleared in tables no higher than 25-50 cents? Thanks...Also whats your guys take on NL vs. Limit poker when it comes to bonus whoring. Since my bankroll is so small would it be wise to try and learn limit vs. NL?
