I'm just glad the giggling lucksack that got 2nd didn't win. Just imagine him on the cover of cardplayer. He was funny though. He said he was the 4th best player in his home game. What a goober.

Pass the sugah!

I really liked Hechem on that last hand after the turn card is dealt. Looks quickly to make sure he has straight, then says to Dannemann something like "Isn't this fun?", then showing that subtle yet obvious smirk when Dannemann goes into his "Aw, shucks, I'm just happy to be here" routine.

Maybe it just seemed too obvious because it was on TV and all, but Hechem's table banter and facial reactions could be construed as tells that should have clued his opponent that top pair with straight draw was dominated -...

You make a good point and I don't recall what proportion of his total chips were already in the pot but I seem to think he either limped in or came in with a minimal raise and should have been able to lay it down. But, if Hachem knew Tex was going to lay it down to Kanter's raise and his own all in move, you could be right that he was willing to gamble with the worst of it with the amount of chips in the pot in a heads up fight with a player who'd made some pretty loose calls and raises throughout the tournament.

Maybe he correctly read the reraise as a pair, but figured it was likely not AA or KK, so at least his Q-outs were good, plus the (longshot) flush possibility? Not sure if their chipstacks, positions etc makes this likely though, but sometimes I have seen people make these moves with weakish cards just because they were getting good enough odds from a big pot.

Still, I've seen people make just the kind of mistake you describe, too (if it was a mistake, misjud...

So I knew before watching it last night that Hachem had won it all but I was curious how he'd done it. They don't show you all the little hands in the middle but I was struck by a few things.

1) Hachem got amazingly lucky to survive after he made that horrible all in play with the q7s. I don't recall if he raised the blinds with his hand but the only players left are Tex in the SB and Kanter in the BB (Dann...whatever, is out). I think Tex raises with AJo, and Kanter definitely reraises with 99. I admit we only got the ESPN edited version of how Kanter plays but did anyone who was watching the WSOP not know that Kanter was going to call the all in with the relative sizes of chip stacks and how much was in the pot (he called WAY too fast, but he seemed like a lucky idiot, so why change at the final table)? Hachem might know that Tex is going to fold (seems to fit the pattern with two raises behind him and a marginal hand), but he has to know Kanter is going to call and he has to know at best ...
