Made my agreed target for month 2 as Christmas day arrived in the UK.

1 week earlier than last month, and I was a sick puppy for a few days

Fingers crossed that this is going to work....

I can play again next month

About 18 months ago, started playing Freerolls - told myself I wouldn't put cash money in until I cashed in one of those. 3 months later, final tabled at one (for a whopping $5 or so). Blew that almost immediately on a NL table.

Deposited $50 into Bet365 (I think), played hyper-conservative for several months of whoring, mostly at the Cryptos (limit HE) with a too-small roll. Even so, was fortunate not to have a bad swing for the first 6 months. Made a couple grand in that time, playing mostly LHE up to 3/6 with a couple months of Omaha (3/6 limit and 100 PL) showing profit as well.

Haven't done as well this year - have had a couple of $500+ downswings. I'm still up for the year, but I find that a downswing tends to put me off of play for a while, so I haven't logged as much time at the tables.

I started 9 months ago with $50. Worked it up to $200 playing .02/.04 O8 and $1 Stars MTTs. Up over 5k this year, some from casino whoring. Not alot but a good start. Right now I'm on track to pull in 2k per month I think.

I'll be pulling out $500+ a month to put in a Roth IRA, next year. After that I'll use some extra to pump up the 401k contributions. We'll see how things go from there.

When I started, I dropped 2 $100 buyins at .50/1.00 pretty fast like in two weeks. I had a 20-30 preflop and bad postflop. I stopped, got a book, got a tighter pre-flop play that put me at 15%. Deposited again and started winning marginally, but bonus was still more than money won. Ground .50/1.00 for a long time until my money was oustripping the bonus. Got my VP$P and PFR and TA up a bit of each and moved up a few levels taking a lot of time at each. So far they haven't been big jumps. So that was 2 weeks losing, 1.5 months with mostly bonus money, and then the poker profits overtook it.

Yeah thanks Chas for the reply,

although when i tested omaha only played low limit, those were exactly my obserations, a couple people seemed to somehow know what they were doing but the rest of the table was equally or even more clueless than me. I will definately look more into omaha, even if its just for entertainment.

I started in May. Deposited $10 in Pokerroom (played .2/.5 LHE) and busted out in 30 minutes. Immediately deposted another $15 and lost that, too. Can you tell I'm a high roller?

I decided I needed to learn something or the pattern would just repeat, so I read Helmuth's book and, more importantly, read a lot on the web (trolled forums) and tightened up. The most important thing for me was when I started using opening hand and pot odds charts. My next $15 deposit lasted a bit longer but eventually went as did my next one. Then, I deposited $50 and promised myself that if I lost it, I'd quit. Luckily, I never had to find out whether I'd keep that promise to myself or not. I'm still playing on that $50.

This whole process took about three weeks before I was winning. It took about another month to win back what I had lost originally.

I'm not trying to hit home runs when I play poker. I keep meticulous records and all I try to do is just be a bit better this month than...

I've been lucky I guess. I was working in a book store for some extra funds while in college, and was looking for some books on chess to read during my breaks. Saw Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players...grabbed it...devoured it...played for free on yahoo games for a month....went to local casino. Lost $485 playing 5/10 limit...won it back plus $130 the next night (This was a few years back and the quality of play was much worse with more variance.) Since then, I've always been in the black.

Played live for many moons straight. Unfortunately, I flew too high...thought I was really good. Busted out playing 40/80...tried to recover at 20/40, then 10/20, and found I lost it.

Started over...rebuilding my game and bankroll by grinding at low limits online. We'll see were I go in a few months.

I am definitely going to start playing it more - I will continue to play it at Pacific doing their bonus.

I used to deposit the minimum at poker room, and play, and lose consistantly... I played bad for a few years online... I would imagine losing atleast 5 or 6 hundred...

Then I started to read a bit, and played more serious... Learned the value of preflop hands, and played accordingly.. I also bought poker office (It's alot like poker tracker, except buggier..) and that helped alot... I still have alot of work to do on my postflop game... But in the past month and a half, I've made around $1500... Not counting the money I dropped on MTT freezeouts or Satelites that were way over my head bankroll wise... But sometimes I'll clear a bonus and just throw it away on a big MTT..

Either way, I plan to keep learning and grinding away... I also plan to pick a game and stick with it... I keep switching from limit to 25/50NL or PL. I like NL, but the swings are murder for a small bankroll.

This is the same path I hope I am starting out on, and I am fairly sure it is the correct one. Can't see the point in losing $1000s learning at a higher level, however little the amount is from your own point of view.

Started by depositing $500 into Party to get the sign-up late December last year (was lucky enough to have a friend inform me of the benefits of bonuses, as well as this site, before I got started).

Escaped with about half the bonus money intact from my first few bonuses cleared at $0.5/1 limit, steadily improved from there. I am probably one of the most conservative guys around here when it comes to moving up in limits, as I have not yet started playing beyond $1/2 limit and $0.10/0.25 PL (which I discovered a lot more recently).

Made a decent profit at $0.5/1 limit, but have been a bit frustrated with my results at $1/2 limit... so I ventured into some baby PL games at Party one reload. It served as a rejuvenation for me, and I have been more profitable and have had more fun since then. Still play a lot of bonuses at $1/2, but play low limit PL when I have a chance.

Sticking to these micro limits has so far resulted in about $16k profits, of which the majority comes from bon...

I lost tons of money when I started playing. My friends and I would fuck around in Vegas and play just for fun. Started playing online again for fun mainly and would skip around from 15/30 to 1/2 to 5/10 to NL to SNG's, etc. with no rhyme or reason at all. Never kept records so who knows how much I lost, probably a few thousand though. Finally wanted to get serious about the game when a few more of my friends started playing. Started learning and paying attention and became a winning player pretty quickly after that.

Started 4 months ago after seing some EPT event on TV, didn't even know the rules of Holdem back then. Read some strategy stuff online and deposited $50 at empire for their $35 bonus. Lost my 50 bucks exactly 1 raked hand before the bonus was credited . Deposited another 50 and then went with about $100 to party; build it to ~$250 with limit .5/1 and $10 sitngos then lost pretty much all but 10 bucks. With those 10 Bucks i hit the NL25 tables and started winning.
Since then it has only gone up. Discovered BW and whored the remaining partyskins with NL25 and did some other bonuses playing limit. But was only breaking even at limit playingwise. Recently bought SSH and concentrating on limit a bit more in order to better clear bonuses. Upped my BB/100 at Limit to ~1.5.
Without the cashouts my bankroll would be around 5k now.
ATM im 4 tabling limit 1/2 - 2/4 and NL25-100 depending on which site i whore
I still prefer NL though although i don't spend nearly as much of my "learning" time (pr...

Started with 50 bucks 18 months ago and have posted a profit (without bonus) 17 of those. I sure hated logging that one losing month but it was only 8 bucks. Bad downswing in the middle of the month and did'nt quite recover. I think it's important for people to actually know where their monthly profit is coming from. I average close to 50% from winning and the rest from bonus money every month. Playing 4 to 6 tables is not conductive to good play. Bonus whoring can get to be somewhat of a grind. You probably started playing poker because you like the game and the challenge. Do yourself a favor and even if your working on a bonus, drop down to 1 or 2 tables and play your game. I did that at Party the other night and found it to be most enjoyable and even more profitable.

I took up Poker in May and quickly lost a few hundred $ but that did'nt put me off.

Got hooked on the game and read some books, got Pokertracker and at the age of 36 finally learnt the Art of Patience!

From July to end Of October i was up 2.2 bb Playing 25/50 and 50/1 limit.

Pokertracker was looking good with over 30,000 hands and lots of nice numbers appearing in Green.

However it has started to go badly wrong from the start of this month when i brought a new P. C. and downloaded a new Pokertracker.

I Am now $90 down over 10,000 hands

Im not entirely sure whats gone wrong either variance or perhaps i have been very lucky.

Either way the new p.c. is up for sale

I started screwing around about 2.5-3 years ago. Bought in for $100 at UB and it lasted a month or two. Took a break. Bought in for another $100 after a few months and lost it all in a weekend. Took another break. Did some reading, learned about BW and how to chase bonuses.

Played losing poker, but increased my bankroll thanks to bonuses for about 3 months. Then started winning occasionally (but not always) after that and would post a positive month, then a negative month, then another positive, a couple negatives....in the end I was about break even, but got to keep all the bonuses.

It wasn't until July of this year that I've been really consistent. With the exception of one disasterous month where I tried to move up to 5/10 games, I've been a solid 1.5-2BB/100 winner at the 1/2, 2/4 and 3/6 levels.

My dad started playing Sept. 1st with a $500 bankroll. He has been losing pretty heavily since then. Last stats I saw of his had him at (3.00)BB/100 since 9/1. Even wi...

I was always cautious. I didnt start out in a hole. I grew up playing rummy, tunk, rook, spades, hearts, uno etc. I didnt get an allowance and taking other kids lunch money on the bus was a major source of income. Its a crutch relying on bad play to win and probably hurts me at higher limits, but
I knew the rules of poker pretty early and never really had a steep learning curve. I had good fortune to start out against bad players and to hit some player shares in bad beats, and some casino plays in real casinos to keep my roll going. I was always of the opinion I should learn something well if money was involved. Maybe you should be harder on yourself and your play if you don't see it improving. Most people are playing for fun, especially where youre at. If you arent doinig well, strip your game down. Get out the Lee Jones. Get tight, and play ONE table. Watch. Play positions, cards, correct "book" play. Don't get ahead and try too fast. You arent going to be uber tight rock forever, ...

Started playing 2 years ago, starting out @ NL50 on Prima. I guess I was an exception since I was a consistent winner from beginning. I switched to limit about year in because I play lot more aggressive in limit than no limit.

Anyway, I usually play 3/6 and 5/10 these days, although I'll play low as 1/2 and high as 15/30. I have been "vacationing" from poker last couple weeks since I feel burnt out, along with the fact there are too many things going on right now in my life.

My goal for next year is try to play some MTTs toward a WPT or WSOP seat, since I could never get myself to sit down and play in an MTT. I'd just rather play some ring games for an hour or two rather than play god knows how long in an MTT. Oh, and learn to play O/8.

started online over 2 years ago at the micro limits, barely above break even. After 2 months, I started playing NL and realized that's where my true passion for the game was. Started winning immediately at the NL25 and 50, pretty much with just sheer agression and raw knowledge. I have about 8 books that I have read and used for a base knowledge, but used all the hours of play to work on and analyze my game. I have moved up in limits every 4-6 months or so, with continued good results. Once I started beating up the NL100 game, I felt pretty confident. That was about 12-14 months ago. Been stuck at NL200-400, mainly due to continued spending of my bankroll (keeping some promises to the wife on things we want). Goal for '06 is to grow the roll and continue to move up. Also, play in more tournies.

First 4 months of my poker "career", I played nothing but NL SNGs, mostly $5 and $10. Hovered around breakeven for the most part, mostly due to luck since I had no real clue how to play. (Although after every game I spent hours reviewing what I had done and reading articles and trying to get better.)

After a nasty $100 downswing playing $10+1 SNGs, I said "f this" and re-applied my thinking to Limit Hold'em. Read several books (incl. Lee Jone's), and pretty much came out of the starting gates winning at the micro-limit tables at PokerStars.

Quite honestly, I have been a fairly consistent winner since that time, as I devoted myself to learning the game. I'm a voracious reader, and thought/think about the game constantly, trying to improve myself. I've certainly experienced downswings - as ALL poker players, even the good ones - but always managed to weather the temporary storm (variance) and kept going.

Lost my first hundred playin 3-6 stud. Bought my second hundred and went up to 2k in no time and back to 1k in less time then that. Skipped playing for a few months and came back at 1-2 and kept winning.

First time at holdem was April of 04. Bought in once and that was the last time I put my own money into poker. Sat with HEPFAP in my lap for a few months as I played. Actually had someone comment that I must be reading the book as I played. No idea how he know but I guess I was obvious. Kept winning at a fairly good rate until I bought Millers book for low limit and since then have been winning at about double the earlier rate. Best thing I learned in Millers book is when and how to play high cards that don't hit on the flop.
