I'm seeing some mixed reactions. The reason I did this move was because I've seen it done before.

Just to clarify. All betting was done for that round. Before the next card (4th street) was going to be turned over by the dealer I told him to wait and thats when I announced I was going all in. It was a move to try to intimidate the other players (yes I know some argue it’s disrespecting the game) . No one had to call my bet yet, all I was doing was announcing my bet for the next card. I was first to act after the next card came out.

What I did end up doing was closing my eyes and turning around and then after the dealer turned the card I said I was all in.

WHERE CAN I FIND A LEGIT RULE BOOK. Anyone know? Also any site where they show poker videos? THANKS

Sounds pretty stupid. Instead of just raising all-in on the flop, you're giving everyone but yourself a free card?

A controversial "image play" to begin with. To do it going all-in in a tournament makes no sense to me.. if someone makes a draw, you're busted out.

He was not checking to get a reaction then trying to bet.

He was announcing his bet on the next round ahead of time. If he was first to act, this was neither unethical nor illegal.

Tell everyone to watch you closely.. Close your eyes, or look away from the table when the turn comes out.. Say all in..

I'm sorry, but which guy were you under?

If you were indeed first to act on the turn, then you can bet in the dark, including going all-in. However, if you weren't first to act, it can be construed as a cheap trick to get information out of people. Maybe people were reacting that way because one of the blinds were still in the hand?

Still unethical and poor poker. Checking to get a reaction then announcing you will be All In with the next card is an Angle shoot.

If hansonkeuler was thinking his bet was all-in on the turn, it is not a string bet. His action on the flop was to check/call the raiser. His action on the turn was to bet all-in in the dark.

If either of the blinds were left in the hand, hansonkeuler's all-in bet is out of order and he could be subject to sanctions. If hansonkeuler is first to act on the turn I would have ruled his bet legal and binding.

Also, UTG doesn't necessarily act first after the flop. If the blinds were still in you bet out of turn.

Didn't John Juanda go all-in "in the dark" in a 2004 WSOP prelim event against Danny Negreanu....or am I missing something here?

Not saying that your observation of it being a string bet is wrong at all, just curious

this is a 'string raise', and not legal. you cannot call first then raise.

what you tried to do has NEVER been legal and you should not waste any more time trying to prove that it ever was.

Ok please help me out here. I was playing a tourny at a bar and all hell broke loose when I tried to do this move. Here's what happened.

The flop just came out. I was UTG. I checked. Some guy raised there were a few callers. I called the raise. Before the next card came out, I told the dealer to 'wait'. I said I was moving all in before the next card was turned (mind i was under the guy and hence first to act). Everyone, all 8 other players, said I could in fact not do this. I'm nearly 100% sure my move was legal.

My questions are;
-Was my move legal?
-If it was legal, where can I find a site where it points out this rule.
-Does anyone have any videos of any pro players making this move.

Please let me know

THANKS!
