There are certainly style differences betweem poker rooms. However all-in with AA vs AJo has the same odds on each site. The PokerRoom folks don't have a "doom!" button they press to screw you or any other player.

| Posted by: rlokers at May 22, 2006, 4:25 am | | Topic: Idiots outdrawing me Forum: Bonus Whores | About a week has passed since my previous post and I wanted to give you something more to consider. I played some more at PokerRoom, keeping your advice in mind. But the same still continued: I kept getting outdrawn by players calling my re-raises and my all-in's. If I had a big hand, I raised and either everybody folded, leaving me just the blinds, or someone called and outdrew me. I went all-in with AA preflop (about $130) and AJo calls. The flop is KQT... Another hand, another AA, my re-raise is called by 88. The flop is A8x, and we're all-in. Of course the turn was another 8. Stuff like that. All the time. Really, believe me, EVERY pot over $20 I lost.
I withdrew the $120 I still had at PokerRoom (that is after a $500 deposit + $150 bonus... so a loss of $530) and started to play at Doyle's Room. And after about 700 hands I'm up $300 (playing at $1-$2 NL, mostly shorthanded, the same as I played on PokerRoom). Now someone explain to me what the big difference is between PokerRoom and Doyle's Ro... | | Read Entire Entry |

Was going to post the hand histories but to much crap to read through. 10-20 6 max on stars. Raise on cutiff with AA. SB calls, all else fold, rag flop 2-6-9. river brings a 7 and villain shows 2-7. Ok find I cna understand that. 5 hands later, I raise on cutoff with K2s, same SB 3 bets it, rest fold: flop is all hearts K,2,5. A fair amount of money gets in by river and no more hearts hit, he leads I call and villian shows 2h7h for a flush. At this point im just waiting to set the trap. 3 hands later I raise utg with 9-9. he 3 bets it out of pos, one other caller, and i cap. flop is 9-J-J. at this point i know im getting revenge. We cap the flop, turn is a 4, we cap again, river brings a Q, he leads i flat call, and villian shows JQo. This is why im quittining ring games for a while and concentrating on MTT. thanks for letting me get that off my ch... | | Read Entire Entry |

Always have the full stack at your table. If I am playing 200 NL and my stack gets to be about 185-180 I am topping that off everytime. | | Static Link |

You suck at quoting
But I concur... Those guys are great to have around (we have a number of them in the local live cash games I play in) and I love it when they get to leave up once in a while (though preferably without too much of my stack of course)...

I hear that. I was at a B2B site with a table FULL of donks, but none more donk-ish then the guy unfortunately on my left. I first came in with a short stack, which I lost my KK to his K2o, heavy preflop raise, but slow playing and he caught freakin a trip 2. Angry and a little tiltish, I came in again against him with A8s, and he reraised all in and pushed me out with a pair of god damn 7s, having caught LOW pair on the flop. Fury gripped me, reloaded a full stack, determined to take a chunk out of this idiot. Finally, my AKs lost to his 83o, which he came in on a $10 raise with and caught two pair.
I suited up, and went out running, as I was so furious I needed to get away from the computer for awhile. Nothing like losing 300 Euro in an hour playing GOOD poker, while the jackass to my left is creeping closer to a four-figure stack.
How do they DO that? He was playing 91% of his hands including ANYTHING I was raising. Amazing. RRGH.

| Posted by: rlokers at May 17, 2006, 2:01 am | | Topic: Idiots outdrawing me Forum: Bonus Whores | To complete all details: we were playing a 5-seater. My opponent was indeed a maniac (hey, what would YOU call someone who raised K7o under the gun?) who raised with any ace he got and more, and wasn't afraid (or just stupid enough) to call a reraise. I wanted to see the flop first to make sure he wouldn't pair up his ace. When no ace came on the flop I moved all-in.
I got used to playing the $2 tables and when I moved down I felt myself playing too loose because a raise to $4 felt 'small' when it actually was 4 times the big blind, and I called them way too often.
Thanks for the advice. I see there's still a lot to learn for me. | | Static Link |

No limit is not a game for a wounded player. It is important to feel comfortable and confidenet when it is time to push a big stack of chips in.

This is the first problem:unless you are confident he has Aces I would reraise with KK ESP on the button(and this is coming from the guy who folded KK a few months ago;I have since re-evaluated that hand and realized I was wrong to go weak tight there).
Quote: The flop is J64 rainbow. He bets $15, I go all-in (about $40), he calls.
This is ok.From what he flipped up I can presume you must've seen him play some han ds earlier that showed him to be a maniac. In that case KK is a decent hand to have against him where he will easily hang himself on the flop for you.Forget about what came on the turn and river. You made the right decision which is what poker (and esp Hold Em) is about. The cards will fall as they do,there is nothing you can do about it.You can control the cards to fall a certain way no more than you can convince 2 girls at a party to join you for... | | Read Entire Entry |

There's really no way for the guy to know what cards are coming up unless he really is psychic or something (not being sarcastic, sometimes my gut feelings come true and it makes me wonder). Yes, he is an idiot and yes you were unlucky. I had a very similar thing happen to me except that it was on Party Poker. In NL it often pays to play hands that another player can't put you on though in your case it's not that he outflopped you and then tricked you into pushing in your stack, he just got fantastically lucky when you had him drawing nearly dead.
I've had people call off their entire stacks on me when I couldn't figure out what they were thinking. Honestly I think it's a form of tilt where it just becomes too easy to forget about the money and push the little "call" button.

| Posted by: DrStrange at May 16, 2006, 8:11 am | | Topic: Idiots outdrawing me Forum: Bonus Whores | Well, I can't say I would play K7o that way in a full ring game. Though I might heads-up or in a blind steal situation. You didn't specify what type of game this is from but let's assume this is at least a 6-max table maybe even a full ring.
Having made a preflop raise with K7o, many people would auto-bet as a continuation on a J64 rainbow flop and hope you would fold. I certainly would make that type of bet.
As for your all-in bet - There is roughly $45 in the pot and he has to call $25. He is getting just under 2-1 for the call. Given that villian has junk in his hand, it is reasonable to expect him to fold. However, there are donkies who can't resist good pot odds.
When the donkies are giving us their money, we seldom complain. When they hit a long shot we feel bad about it. You might look at that as 'bad' luck, but really it is normal luck. Even as the favorite you are going to lose a significant fraction of the hands.
The games aren't rigged. The... | | Read Entire Entry |
| Posted by: rlokers at May 16, 2006, 7:31 am | | Topic: Idiots outdrawing me Forum: Bonus Whores | | First of all, let me explain that this post is a result of my frustration. I'm playing at PokerRoom and I am having a terrible bad beat. I'm losing lots of money because an opponent catches a Q to his QQ on the river to beat my AA. Not once, but almost every big pot I'm getting outdrawn. The worst happened yesterday: I am dealer and get KK. The guy two seats before me raises to $7 (big blinds are $2). I call. The flop is J64 rainbow. He bets $15, I go all-in (about $40), he calls. The turn and the river are a 5 and a 3 and his K7o beats my KK. You see why I am frustrated. But then I started to wonder. How come he bet big before and on the flop, when he had absolutely nothing? And even called my all-in with K high? He didn't even have a draw! I don't want to say some pokersites are rigged but I really get the feeling this guy 'knew' what cards would come up. Is he just an idiot, am I just unlucky, or.... Anyway, thanks for reading this, letting me off some steam. | | Static Link |
