Forum: Bonus Whores | I will take this into account next time im playing live, specially card protection, i only play B&Ms but at Belize, never seen anything out of the ordinary but then again i've there just a few times.
Only thing that i saw kinda weird was this guy flashing his cards to whoever was behind him, he hold his cards like if it was draw poker... he didn't take it nicely so i didn't say another word to him and cashed out and went to black jack a while (only one poker table at the casino back then). Funny thing, casino personel told me that he was gone if i wanted to play poker again. | | Static Link |

Forum: Bonus Whores | Originally published in 1949, then updated in 1965, Scarne On Cards by John Scarne spends the first 25 pages of the book explaining how you will get cheated in a private card game.
It's the most informative reading about cards I've ever done. | | Static Link |

I try to keep my radar up when I play with strangers for significant stakes in an environment they control. There are many things to look for - -
1. Look for cameras. I look carefully at the wall treatments, light fixtures, nail heads and screw holes. I always drop a chip on the floor and crawl down to pick it up. Cameras are very cheap, easy to hide and operate wirelessly, on batteries.
2. Look at the cards. Not only can the house mark the cards (so well, I doubt I would always see it even if I looked hard) but so can the other players. When you get dealt aces especially, feel the card and look for nicks in the edge or any other stray marks.
3. Watch the dealer, even if it is a house-provided dealer. I doubt I could actually see a good mechanic cheat but there have been times I got a really bad feeling about the way ... | | Read Entire Entry |

1. Was this an unfortunate accident? Or is it a ploy used by regular players vs uninformed guests?
2. Would you have packed up and left? The game isn't very strong. Hero could make OK money even with the stiff rake.
3. Would you go back to the game?
1. Not an accidnet, Yes a ploy.
2. Yes
3. No

I wonder what the ruling would have been if BB's mucked cards made their way onto the Button's cards after he was all-in, but with another live hand.
I think it was a technically correct, but practically stupid, application of the rule. I think I'd have to be pretty hard up to play in this game, given your entire description. | | Static Link |

Forum: Bonus Whores | I'd definitely get out of there for the night (in case MP1 comes back with "help"), but if the game is really soft I'd give it another shot. If there are regular incidents, find a new game if possible. If you are >50% certain that it is a ploy by regular players, you either don't come back, be really careful, or use the rules to your advantage as well. The third option could be dangerous (and probably against your principles if I can glean a moral read on you from your posts), so I'd go with the second option for now.

That's an option. Anything on top of your cards (a chip, a coin or a lucky rock, for instance) is considered a card protector. | | Static Link |

Tough call, but it was his responsability to protect his cards.

Definetively. I'd be steaming on tilt and looking to 'get even'. In that situation, I'd rather leave.

Nopes. Gotta have better games running in town.

Forum: Bonus Whores | Hero is playing at a $200NL private game of questionable legality (there is a sizable rake). This is the first time he has been here. The game has a very specific set of house rules clearly posted, all of which seemed reasonable.
The game seems normal enough until the following situation came up. Hero is not in the hand. Stacks are nearly full buy-ins or bigger. No one is short stacked.
Hand is folded to MP1 who raises to $15 (standard table raise). Button and BB calls. The flop is dealt (the cards are not meaningful). BB checks, MP1 bets $75 and Button pushes.
Here is the strange part. BB anounces "I fold" and tosses his cards through the middle of the table and into the unprotected hand of MP1. A second or two passes, then the button announces that MP1's hand is dead and rakes the pot in. MP1 starts to throw a fit and tries to call the all-in bet but the house rules his hand is dead, citing two of the house rules.
1. Once a player announces ... | | Read Entire Entry |
