I read the Pot Limit & No Limit book a while back, I think the Middle Limit book is a much stronger effort by Ciaffone. I'm reading the Flop play section right now, and I like the way he breaks down the type of hands your would play (drawing hand, over pair, etc.), with lots of hand examples to illustrate how to play them based on position, pot size, number of opponents, and the strength of your hand and potential.

I would suggest learning Omaha 8, seems like it is a very profitable game right now from what I've read and heard from other people, and it is somewhat similar to Holdem so the learning curve might be not as steep. I plan to learn O8 and get decent at it before tackling 7 Stud myself, even though I've dabbled a bit in 7 Stud to clear some bonus before.

Oops i might have made a mistake in the middle limit poker, i went just for the look of the cover

So now stoxtrader is a must then, im not yet at the middle limit but i might go for this book now that i read that its good. I consider myself new to omaha as well, so this 3 maybe the chosen ones, im still open to suggestions.

The Chen book is available but i think i will have it next time i get books, or ask a friend to get it (we have a shared poker library).

I just don't know if i should work on my HE or focus on learning O/7S...

I didn't like Pot Limit & No Limit (Ciaffone) since i felt i learnt only that those guys play for much money and they know a lot of people i've never heard of... I might have to read it again.

Holdem Wisdom (negreanu) is pretty general and fairly basis, good bathroom reading material and that's about it. Still waiting for his Power Holdem book, but the release date keeps getting moved into the future.

Middle Limit Poker (2+2) I'm reading a book called Middle Limit Holdem Poker by Ciaffone and Brier, but I don't think it is published by 2+2. Anyways, I'm about 40% through the book, and so far it is excellent. If this book is available, I definitely recommends it.

Omaha Poker (ciaffone) I just started this one as well, and looks good so far. I'm totally new to Omaha, and I like the way he is presenting the information so far. He does some comparison between Omaha and Holdem, which helps if you are a holdem player already.

Winning in tough HE games (stoxtrader) Waiting for this one myself, I've read some good reviews about this book. Apparently this is a good book to read if you want to learn short handed limit holdem.

By the way, is Mathematics of ...

Sorry, holdem for advanced[...] was an oversight, also nl:t&p

Ill check availability of the "how good [...]" books.

Yeah i've heard too many mixed opinions about the omaha books. I'm actually waiting for the HoC 1,2 and now the Farha book plus one of the 2+2 books coming later this year... i might have to go by trial and error and spend some bucks in books.

Hi Pinos,

I don't see Hold'em for Advanced Players. Was that an oversight, or is it not available?

From what I found, the SSs stud sections + 7SFAP is all one needs.

I've often seen the How Good is Your... books recommended, and not seen them panned.

I've seen so many mixed reviews for every Omaha book out there, and since you're getting into Stud (possibly), I'd suggest you wait (like me) for Sammy Farha's Omaha book due in October. Learning a second game will be tough enough, let alone two more at once.

For a third book, the Winning in Tough Hold'em Games might be a good choice.

I've never seen good comments about Cloutier (or McEvoy, though you haven't listed any of his) but none of the comments ever say why Cloutier's works are so bad.

Best.

I have read about half of those books, and didn't like any of them.

Hey guys, im here seeking advice in which books to get... im kinda in the same condition that GB was, i have a big disscount at this store so i want the best book value off the list im posting.

Given that, i have read:
SSHE,
Pot Limit & No Limit (Reuben),
Poker Tournament Formula (Snyder),
Hi-lo Split (Ray Zee, O8 only so far).

Plus im getting shipped:
HOH 1-3,
the tourny book of Sklansky + TOP
and finally the psycology book that was on GB's thread.

Plus i have SS 1,2. It is possible that some of the books won't ever get to me but its a slim chance only, we had them delivered from PS and others from a friend at US.

What are my intentions? well... with all the bonuses dying at an accelerated rate i want to become a good/winning poker player in most (all) popular games... of course this is a long term plan... im willing to put those hours when possible (work is a bitch). I might be away from the tables for a nice while s...
