| Posted by: when2run at March 8, 2005, 11:25 pm | | Topic: PartyPoker bb and sb changes in 25NL Forum: Bonus Whores | | I began playing poker at the no limit games at the commerse casino here in L.A. Eventually I got sick of the drive and started to play online. Due to my bonus whoring, I sometimes play limit to clear the bonuses quicker, but have had far less success at limit. (I still beat the games, but its deffinately more of a grind.) I find limit to actualy be more of a gamble, because I can't protect my hand, and I know I have to survive not just the flop, but the turn and river on almost every hand, usually mwith at least three drawers in the hand with me. To me limit is very frusterating. Some people can play both limit and no limit very well, but for the rest of us, we have a clear favorite. | | Static Link |

Hmm, interesting. I am complete newbie when it comes to NL, just played a couple of freerolls at one of the Party skins (I got kicked out kinda quick).
I am not so sure NL is really my type of game though - I know a lot of you are playing it, but would you consider it a "natural progression" from low limit hold'em --> higher limit --> no limit?
Or would you rather say that you are either a limit type player or a NL type, and then you pick whatever level of "your" game that feels comfortable for your bankroll?
Or do you consider yourself "hold'em players" and play both limit and NL?
I went straight from $1/2 to the $25 NL games at Party. Now I play the $50 NLs at Party and Paradise. I enjoy playing NL much more than limit, which was becoming a grind to me.
I think once your game is at a certain poin... | | Read Entire Entry |

Tournament NL play and cash NL play are two totally different beasts. You want to acquire as many chips as you can in tournaments as your chips are your life blood. Also, you want to put as little risk in those chips as you possibly ... | | Read Entire Entry |

| Posted by: JPMcMoney at March 7, 2005, 6:11 am | | Topic: PartyPoker bb and sb changes in 25NL Forum: Bonus Whores | ok, so i decided to playa little of the NL25 last night just to see how bad it could be. Wow, my expectations were exceeded. $80 in a half hour and I didnt even get that great a run of cards. Heres an example.
I have AK and raise 6x BB preflop ($1.50).
2 callers
flop is 942 rainbow
I bet $4 (about the pot)
1 caller
turn is a 7 (second diamond)
I bet $7. He calls
River is a 3 of clubs. I check, he checks.
He has K10 offsuit, I win with A high.
Stuff like that all night. Winning big pots with just a pair and things like that. Also, the raked pct. was about 60-65% so not horrible.
I will mostly stay with NL50, but my God, if you ever wanted to dabble in NL for the first time, heres your place to start.

This would make sense, due to the average stack sizes being higher. I have notes on quite a few players for NL on party and I have noticed that most of the old NL25 are playing the NL50. There are still PLENTY of fish there, trust me.

Besides, you are a better player than that. Why hang out in the minors?
I have given up on the NL25 because when it gets tight you might rake 1-2 hands an orbit. I think NL50 is ok, it would be better if they removed the NL25 completely because all the current NL25 players would be forced to play NL50.
One thing that I think makes Crypto so awesome is that they have no micro limits so the bad players there are forced to play higher. Giving the bad players at Party a new NL game that is half the price is bad IMHO. | | Static Link |

But after taking some time to play both the 25PL and 50PL I would have to say it is a great move. I have moved up to the 50PL and see the same players/fish I did at 25PL previously. So not only am I clearing the bonuses at a fast pace still - I am making a lot more money.

| Posted by: jon593 at March 6, 2005, 12:14 pm | | Topic: PartyPoker bb and sb changes in 25NL Forum: Bonus Whores | i moved up to $50 nl after the change and it is most of the same players and obviously you have a chance to make double the money you would at $25. hell even $100 nl has just as bad of players as $25
but with that comes the bad you can also lose twice as mcuh | | Static Link |

| Posted by: ThinMan at March 6, 2005, 11:43 am | | Topic: PartyPoker bb and sb changes in 25NL Forum: Bonus Whores | Oh but, by the way, here is my actual opinion on the subject from a post in the Pot Limit Omaha forum at 2+2...
Quote: The pot sizes, for the most part, have lowered a bit, especially the 200 I would imagine, but for very predictable reasons.
People who are playing in the 400+ games, with the correct bankroll, would in the past be playing in the 100 game far under their bankroll level. This of course as we know will lead to a looser game. That, combined with the broken blinds, created the crazy all-in play in these games in the past.
Now however, that everything has been fixed, and with the bigger games in place, what we will now see is even better.
The fish will swim upstream.
And it will not take long. In fact, it is already happening as I am seeing names trickle upward. And now...There is plenty of room to swim!
You are going to have people pressing their wins at bigger tables as well as chasing their loses and either way...It's... | | Read Entire Entry |

I'm going to go ahead and stick with playing with the fishes and take my chances.

Maybe.
JPMcMoney wrote: Same blinds, same players and, yes, same rake %.
I am quite sure the average pot size has shrunk. Also a lot of the really bad players are playing NL25
JPMcMoney wrote: The NL25 now is just like an added lower level, so it is going to play like .50/$1 limit.
This really sucks as it gives the bad players training wheels before they move up. | | Static Link |
| Posted by: JPMcMoney at March 6, 2005, 8:20 am | | Topic: PartyPoker bb and sb changes in 25NL Forum: Bonus Whores | ok, first, they did not do this to crack down on whoring. Party was the ONLY site that had NL maximum buyins equal to 50x the BB instead of 100x the BB. The change just brought them up to speed with all of the other sites. Second, if you played NL25 before, you should be playing the NL50 now. Same blinds, same players and, yes, same rake %. The NL25 now is just like an added lower level, so it is going to play like .50/$1 limit.
And, yes, read the other threads for more complete analysis.

regards dathief....
