I would love to be a fly on the wall in the Empire Poker boardroom and hear what they are saying, especially if they saw all the reactions generated on these forums. I agree with some of the other posters, that I understand why they want to curb bonus whores, but how they are going about it is all wrong. However, it is their perogative to run their business as they wish, as long as they give everyone's money back.

Soooo, let's join together, in the best Douglas Adams fashion and sing...

"So long and thanks for all the fish, too bad it has to come to this..."

If you saw the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie, you will know the tune.

The Empire account closures don't seem to be about multiple accounts at all though, right? From the wording in their e-mail, it sounds like they would shut you down even if you only have a single account at Empire, but never ever play there apart from clearing a bonus, and cashing out right afterwards...

...or am I misreading it?

That's the rumor.

I believe it was Jan or Feb of 2004 when they started making it more difficult to sign up at multiple skins. After that people simply signed up on another computer, created another XP account or did the registry edit. Even then, they were perfectly fine with your other accounts, with CS referencing them in phone calls and emails. These account closures are the first indication (that I am aware of) where a member of the Party Network has expressly foribben this to take place.

I'm curious about the players (such as me) that got in BEFORE it was bad to have multiple accounts.

When I got my accounts (4 years ago) they had no problem with having an account in each skin.

The Poker industry is constantly evolving. People have been saying that bonuses would go the way of the do-do ever since I started whoring two years ago. Bottom line is that there are more whoring oppurtunies than ever before (new sites and reload bonuses from established sites).

Instead of closing poker accounts, Empire needs to look at themselves. Increasing their WR for bonuses (perhaps to 10x-20x) is a much better way to twart bonuswhores. Closing accounts only hurts their public relations. Who's running this company?

Don't forget that poker pulse has their numbers provided to them by the site operators themselves so info there should be taken with a grain of salt.

In terms of generating rake beyond bonus dollars earned also remember that sites incur your deposit fees 4-10 % depending on the method. So you could generate more rake than bonus paid out but if you constantly deposit and cashout (especially same day etc etc) you could be a positive rake generator but still cost the operator money due to deposit fees.

I agree that the industry will/is change. I tried to bring this up a month ago in a thread titled poker room reload but no one seemed to think it would happen.

This makes sense; there are more tactful ways for Empire to deal with this though such as bonus conditions that still result in net rake for the house and/or just making account specific reloads issued only to active accounts.

Has anyone had an account closed that generates rake above and beyond bonus whoring?

Here's my theory FWIW.

Once the rush to grab new players is over managing your accounts becomes more important to a poker room. There is a website that tracks the number of new players accross all networks each month (pokerpulse.com). According to that there was only a 0.3% increase in April (to 1.828 million). Previously increases were nearer 10% monthly, and a year ago it was tens of percent each month.

Once the market shares have been established and the bottomless pit of new players from organic growth of the industry is finished, a business must look at other ways to continue to grow. Then loyatly schemes (eg party points) and account management (getting rid of customers that are costing you money rather than generating it - bonus whores) are the first steps to continued profitability. Seems to me the golden years of whoring are coming to an end.

As for multiple accounts - I have an account with Party and one with Empire - at the moment they are both active and bot...

Surely if it were just having multiple accounts then everyone here would have gotten the email.

Does anyone know why these are being triggered? For those who got the email did you do any play at Empire above and beyond whoring?
