That seems to be quite a nice description. I found a couple of new features I had absolutely no idea of.
However, I would still suggest that you should go to the PT forum and ask the more specific questions you have there. They have nearly all the info, and if they don't you can always ask them.

There are quite a few basic things in the PokerTracker forums themselves to help you. Also, you may want to spend $20 on the "PokerTracker Guide", as it will help guide you quite a bit with how to maximize your usage of the software.

Ok, you might have heard similar questions in the past, but I searched the archives and found little specific help.

I finally broke down and bought poker tracker. I know it's going to help me, but on first walk through, I'm lost. Where do I start with this program? I mean, I've imported hands, and generated stats, but I just look at everything and get lost. I'm sure with familiarity, I will be able to process it all. But until I get familiar with the program, are there 2-3 things I should really focus on that will make the biggest difference?

Thanks for the help.

I think you need it more for 6 max then for full-ring. Even playing only two tables at 6 max the hands go by too fast to see who or what everyone is betting with. Just remember that your ratings should be different from full-ring. Players may be listed as agressive but only raising 10% preflop. I am sure there are formulas at the PT site if you want to change your setting for short handed tables.

I only loaded Poker Tracker a few weeks ago and wish I had done so earlier.

I play 6-max limit and I quickly identified that some hands I automatically raised preflop were poor value. I have tightened up slightly as a result.

I also didn't realise quite how loose many players are, even at the $5/$10 level. I think it will begin to pay for itself as the database enlarges and I can identify more players before I sit down at a table.

PT and PAHUD are amazing tools. I can't imagine playing online poker without them - especially when playing more than one table. The fact is, though, that they're tools. Don't come to rely on them too much. They are great at helping to make decisions, just don't let them do it for you (if you get me).

One of the best things (if not THE best) is the value in reviewing your own play and plugging leaks. This is how I discovered that hands A-10o, K-Jo, and small pairs were -EV for me at FLHE and I had to change how I played them.

If you are 4 tablign or less its indispensable. Especially if you share databases, data mine, etc...... THere is now way you can have notes on tons of players the way a database can. Peopel who I used to think were ok players turned out to be really bad, or small winners. I cant run it with all the sites i have open, if i could , i would. But it definitely pays off when you go looking for two things even if you arent GT+ing. Big winners and small losers. First day I realized who was ganking down 10+BB/100 and stopped being in their pots, I saved a lot. Its nice that a lot of them arent bonuswhores because they play too much under 1 ID to always be on a bonus. That right there was probably .5BB/100. And the other was not having to watch the gameplay as hard to find targets. KNowing who will fold when is just too indispensable. But I have to spend a lot of time reading back thru the database after .

I bought PT within a day or two of downloading the test version, and PAHud the same day as I tried it out. Best value pieces of software ever IMHO.

I played my whole life without poker tracker. I've been a winning player during that time. 5 days ago I bought and installed it. I can't believe what an idiot I was for not getting it before. Combined with GT+ it's just incredible. If you're a break even player, it's likely to push you over the edge into winning. If you're a winning player you're going to win more.

Picture this -- a guy raises preflop and you hold QQ -- with PT and GT+ you now know that he's played 100 hands and never made a preflop raise before. Would that information be worth something? I think it might.

I think you are missing a bunch of useful information without PokerTracker. Not only do you get a FAR more detailed set of stats, but you also get a record of every hand played. I find the ability to review my hands a day or two after the fact to be essential when I start getting off my game.

The cost of PokerTracker and a heads up display is about $100, a small investment for someone playing at mid to high levels. Even if decide PokerTracker isn't for you, the investment is not a big deal. However, I predict you will wonder how you could have played without the software by the end of your first week.

Got a question for all you winning players out there. Ive been playing pretty seriousness for the last 3 months, middle limits for last 2, and middle-high for last month. However, I do not use poker tracker. I keep notes that consists of three points, can steal blinds, and will/will not fold to continuation bet and calls down with A high. So my notes look like, YES/FOLD/A high extc. Am I crazy for not using poker tracker when I play, or does it not make to big of a difference once you start to move up and see the same faces. It seems like some people on here swear by it.

Circuit city is selling a 160 GB for 120 before rebate

That can be pricematched to Samsclub, where it is 80 dollars.

final price is 80-4-30-30=16. (30 and 30 are circuit city rebates).

It's a no go. They wouldn't PM Sam's. That will be my last chance to try too. I move tomorrow.

You should definitely post your PT problems on their forum. They hav a great customer support there. Most likely you'll get advice from the programmers themselves.

Nice! If I get a chance, I might pick up 2 or 3 I have family to claim rebates... However, the website shows that the rebates are only good until 5-14-05. Is it different at the B&M store? No circuit city in town that I am aware of. It would be worth the drive though if I were in my car. Unfortunately I am in my dad's pickup for moving out this weekend, and his brakes started giving me trouble today Might consider it anyway tomorrow or Thursday. Thanks for the tip!

I was actually wondering the same thing this afternoon. I'd imagine that deleting the database backup files (from compacting) would be just fine. Can anyone confirm this? That would free up about 225 MB for me. On a 6 gig HDD, that's significant. Or I could buy a new computer....

One "trick" I've heard people mention is setting a priority on the program.

In XP
With the program running, hit "ctl-alt-del" and then the "processes." Select the Poker Tracker tast and right click. There should then be option to set the priority.

can anyone let me know what I can do to decrease the memory pokertracker takes up. I have 18.6 GB in memory. Only 90 MB of free space left. I have around 2000 songs on my computer. I have slowly been deleting some of them. Other than that I just have poker sites and regular windows programs. Pokertracker will not work for me right now because of this. I do compact hand historys but is there anything else I can do? How bout delete the fews hands of 1/2 6 max tables as I rarely play that.

I'm quite sure my Crypto alias never sat down with any of my Party aliases, and they work fine. Just make sure you've played with both accounts, and that you've configured the import thingy to get both their hands.

Just make sure you import some hand histories from when that account is playing, and it should show up in the user list. At least I assume it would - I have gotten my users at several Party skins all merged into one, but don't know of any gnome accounts.

I just purchased poker tracker over the weekend and am having trouble getting my gnome account on party to work. It does not show up as one of the choices of adding an alias. I assume this is because I have never been at the same table as my real account.

I hope this is possible as without poker tracker I feel lost. Even if is is only to see how many hands someone has played at the table.

Open up your ring stats in PT. Go to the PREFERENCES tab and under that tab, go to the POKER SITES section. If you just check certain sites, it'll only show stats for that site then under your GENERAL INFO tab.

So in your case, check the box next to Party and Affiliates, save (gives you that option after you leave the preferences tab) and then go to GENERAL INFO tab. If you played Party also, you'll have to do the math on your own but that's the only way to isolate your Empire stats (at least that I know of).
