I learned a long, long time ago not to say "hi" or otherwise point out that I know someone at the table from BW. It turns out to not be a profitable move...because then I have to spend the next two hours telling stupid fish what it means to play for a bonus...
Of course, with my non-bonus poker "profits" being less than zero for the past three months, that's obviously not working either...
OK, but all of the whores I know and see at the tables are very discreet, and it is nice to know who the really good players are, oustide of what PT tells you.

The slowdown of growth in internet poker does not appear to have affected Empire Online which said that revenues jumped 71 per cent in the third quarter.

Investor confidence in internet poker hit a new low yesterday as PartyGaming, the market leader, effectively forced a divorce on the so-called "skin" companies whose online marketing skills have helped to fuel the game's astonishing growth.
PartyGaming's decision to sever long-standing partnerships with these "white-label" operators will be seen as the start of intense competition among poker sites. Until now, most sites have concentrated on recruiting newcomers to online gambling. Yesterday's move may herald competition for established players.

Shares in Empire Online, potentially the biggest loser from PartyGaming's decision, fell 34%. A month ago, when it received a takeover approach from Sportingbet, Empire was valued at over £800m; it is now worth £350m.

My plan was basically to spend the rest of October whoring the 20X Multis at the 25 NL tables. Last night, after the split from Party I was probably getting 1/2 to 2/3 the number of raked hands per hour as I was before. There were just too many tight players around, and too many non-raked pots even at the $1 threshold.
This morning, I looked and saw that the PL games all had higher average pots than the straight NL games. I opened up 4 and played for several hours. I found that most of the players there were quite weak-tight, with a few 30%+ VP$IP players scattered around. It was much easier to tell where you were in a hand than playing with the Party maniacs. I found the clearing rate at the PL tables to be roughly equivalent to what I was getting before, meaning a pretty quick clearing rate. I also had a good session against the TPPs, winning $88.

Obviously the 20x reloads are a waste of time, but there are still plenty of poor players that make plenty of mistakes both preflop and postflop. Just because they aren't total idiots doesn't mean the games are profitable. I played for a few hours last night and saw that the flops are usually 3 or 4 handed instead of 5 to 6, but there were still guys in with weak aces, offsuited low paint cards in early position, and tons of other terrible pokr habits that are profitableto decent players. Its not an ATM like before, but if you are a decent player you shouldn't have a problem with playing a 7x or even a 10x bonus there. | | Static Link |

Then I played 1 1/2 hours on Multipoker, with far less tables available, and pots on average around $5 lower. Not complete rock gardens, but pretty tight. The good news is that the software is apparently rigged to keep disgruntled players there -- I was up $150 on two tables.
Seriously, this is bad news for the Multipoker whores and middle-high-limit skin players with rakeback. This new network doesn't look too shabby to me though. The traffic is pretty good. We may see better bonuses to keep traffic (and grow). They can't just leach off Party and offer rakeback any more. Multipoker is going to have to offer better clearance terms. Who will want to play 20x bonii with all the fish gone? | | Static Link |
