I kept looking for a small Texas Holdem disclaimer saying this Texas Holdem site was a parody of a real Texas Holdem strategy site. Texas Holdem!

LOL just found this

If the action has been checked to you make a top pair bet on the flop. That means a bet the size of the pot.

Are any of these worthwhile or are they just redundant?

Some good general books that don't require a specific focus (HoH is NL tournament specific, Small Stakes Holdem is low LIMIT):

1. Holdem Poker by Gary Carson.
2. The Book of Bluffs by Matt Lessinger.
3. Texas Holdem Odds and Probabilities by Matt Hilger.

That being said, there probably are not too many books that will hurt your game. Just get all of them.

I suspect we're just trying to pull our 15 posts here, but if you seriously need to ask a broad question like 'when should I go all-in?', here's some advice. Invest in some sound poker books from proven winners like Doyle Brunson, David Sklansky, Phil Helmuth, Phil Gordon, Tom McEvoy, etc. The internet is also full of poker sites which offer basic strategy for beginners. Here are a few links to get you started. Save them in the "favorites" on your browser for easy reference:

I think boredom with Texas Holdem is quite natural for a large proportion of those who are good at it.

Many good Texas Holdem players are strategic thinkers who strive to improve their play. Eventually, there's not much more room to improve because you've reached the limits of your abilities. In addition to that, the game itself becomes repetitive. Many of the same situations recur and the same decisions are being made. It becomes less and less of a challenge, and more and more automatic.

When you no longer improve, when the game is repetitive, and when it is no longer challenging, guess what? You become bored.

When I first discovered Texas Holdem I thought, "This is great! It's almost as fun as playing a game of chess, but it pays me money!"

Now I sometimes feel like playing chess for an hour and foregoing the $10-$20 I can make in an hour playing poker.

I am still improving, and I've only played Texas Holdem for a few months, but I can see that e...

If you play Texas Holdem at the low blind levels I recommend 'Get the Edge at Low Limit Texax Holdem' by Bill Burton. It has a great chart inside the front cover and many helpful hints for playing online. 'Ken Warren Teaches Texas Holdem' is another good one. It will give the reader an excellent understanding of the mathematical elements of the game. Whatever you do don't waste your money on any books or ideos by Phil Helmuth. They are full of bad advice. Cheers

From the Pokerroom promo page:

What is the Heartbreaker Tournament?

It is a $5+0.50 No Limit Texas Holdem tournament with unlimited rebuys during the first hour. PokerRoom.com will add a total of $20,000 to this tournament - $10,000 to the normal prize pool and $10,000 to a special side pool. The side pool will be divided by the 20 players that breaks the heart of the most other players. To break a players heart, as you might know, you knock him or her out of a tournament (or at least force them to make a rebuy). The tournament will run on February 13th at 7 PM ET.

Okay, I'm going to change the rules of Holdem (let's call it Boltneck Holdem). In Boltneck Holdem, there are 10 players at the table. Every player has 2 pocket cards (just like Texas Holden). Every player bets $5 preflop, or folds. There are no other betting rounds. Five cards are dealt face up, and whoever has the best hand (using the old fashioned Texas Holdem hand rankings) wins the pot.

You have AA pockets - do you bet? Sure as hell you do. You may have less chance of winning than if there were 2 players, but you sure as hell have a better chance that the bandit sittinf 72o.

My point is that you have to use all the information that you have. If that just amounts to knowing what your cards are, and the chances of anyone else having better, then that's what you base your judgement on.

Winning Low Limit Holdem by Lee Jones will tighten you up to where you aren't losing (assuming you play Holdem). After you understand that book then maybe Internet Texas Holdem by Hilger or the ultra-popular Small Stakes Holdem by Ed Miller. Pick up Mike Caro's Fundamental Secrets of Winning Poker too. It is a fun read and worth the eight bucks. Buy them all at Overstock.com dirt cheap.
