Some good general books that don't require a specific focus (HoH is NL tournament specific, Small Stakes Holdem is low LIMIT):
1. Holdem Poker by Gary Carson.
2. The Book of Bluffs by Matt Lessinger.
3. Texas Holdem Odds and Probabilities by Matt Hilger.
That being said, there probably are not too many books that will hurt your game. Just get all of them.

I suspect we're just trying to pull our 15 posts here, but if you seriously need to ask a broad question like 'when should I go all-in?', here's some advice. Invest in some sound poker books from proven winners like Doyle Brunson, David Sklansky, Phil Helmuth, Phil Gordon, Tom McEvoy, etc. The internet is also full of poker sites which offer basic strategy for beginners. Here are a few links to get you started. Save them in the "favorites" on your browser for easy reference:

Many good Texas Holdem players are strategic thinkers who strive to improve their play. Eventually, there's not much more room to improve because you've reached the limits of your abilities. In addition to that, the game itself becomes repetitive. Many of the same situations recur and the same decisions are being made. It becomes less and less of a challenge, and more and more automatic.
When you no longer improve, when the game is repetitive, and when it is no longer challenging, guess what? You become bored.
When I first discovered Texas Holdem I thought, "This is great! It's almost as fun as playing a game of chess, but it pays me money!"
Now I sometimes feel like playing chess for an hour and foregoing the $10-$20 I can make in an hour playing poker.
I am still improving, and I've only played Texas Holdem for a few months, but I can see that e... | | Read Entire Entry |

If you play Texas Holdem at the low blind levels I recommend 'Get the Edge at Low Limit Texax Holdem' by Bill Burton. It has a great chart inside the front cover and many helpful hints for playing online. 'Ken Warren Teaches Texas Holdem' is another good one. It will give the reader an excellent understanding of the mathematical elements of the game. Whatever you do don't waste your money on any books or ideos by Phil Helmuth. They are full of bad advice. Okay, I'm going to change the rules of Holdem (let's call it Boltneck Holdem). In Boltneck Holdem, there are 10 players at the table. Every player has 2 pocket cards (just like Texas Holden). Every player bets $5 preflop, or folds. There are no other betting rounds. Five cards are dealt face up, and whoever has the best hand (using the old fashioned Texas Holdem hand rankings) wins the pot.
You have AA pockets - do you bet? Sure as hell you do. You may have less chance of winning than if there were 2 players, but you sure as hell have a better chance that the bandit sittinf 72o.
My point is that you have to use all the information that you have. If that just amounts to knowing what your cards are, and the chances of anyone else having better, then that's what you base your judgement on.

Come along and have a bit of fun - next tournament is scheduled for Sunday 3rd Feb - it is open for registration already.
Cheers and thanks cardschat - hope this doesnt iolate your rules.
