Topic: Very nice poker set.. Forum: Card Chat

Lots of competition on eBay and Amazon for trying to sell poker chips - so much that it's getting tough for retailers like myself to sell chip sets on there. I'd recommend asking friends whether they want a set for $60 or the like. Postage can be a bit of a killer with these sets because of their weight, so selling to a friend or locally gives you a chance to charge slightly more for the set itself but work out cheaper than buying from online.

Do yourself a favour, and actually buy REALLY GOOD chips straight away, if it is to much to bear on your own, then ask your friends to chip in aswell, i have played poker for 4 months and have already bought 4 sets of chips, 2 of them are 1000 piece sets, and in the end, YOU WILL WANT CLAY CHIPS, so get clay chips, PJCC are good, i also really like the nevada jacks, but they are expensive, 1000 piece set, all clay from PJCC is um i forget, im in australia, here http://pjccmall.com/cgi-bin/shop/ind...=32050206&SPD= i bought these ones, they are good, if you want i have 1000 piece set i will sell of these http://www.direct2public.com.au/p/53...-chip-set.html, $200 australian

I steal someone's credit card or bank account information. I make a large deposit to a poker site, lose $10k to a bunch of accomplices in a few hours, and then disappear before the card/account is reported stolen and frozen. The poker room has to eat the loss, because there's no way to prove that the people who won the $10k aren't normal people who happened to be playing against the thief.

Chip dumping. This is basically what they're accusing you of (potentially) trying to do.

Yes, first post here. No real reason to ever post before.

as for 'chip dumping' chip dumping is a form of collusion in a poker tournament, where you intentionally dump all your checks to your mate in order to better your chances in the tournament.

or you team play a guy at a ring game and then fold the hand without a showdown.

what we did was sit heads up..one on one..and the guy that sets the games up for me , joey, is the one who seized not only the money in question but the rest of my account as well.

Topic: Charity Poker Night Forum: Card Chat

Guys has anyone here ever attended one, what was it like and what sort of prizes were on offer.

The reason I ask as I am part of a charity committee that started with 2 sets of football(soccer) fans playing against each other in the stadium for each club. Raising money for local charities.

As we've progressed I had the idea of a charity poker night. It would be NL holdem, 64 entrants (8 tables of 8) with the final 8 getting something. £20.00 + 1 £10.00 rebuy each, starting chips 4000, blinds starting at 25/50 and increasing every 20 minutes.

My only problem is we obviously can't give out money and aren't sure what to give, we are thinking chip sets and possibly the table tops, not sure what to give the winner though(we'd obviously look for a sponsor to provide the top prize).

Any Ideas

ok buying chips is really quite simple, you get what you pay for. You can buy 11.5 gram chips for $20 or $120, the difference is huge if you intend to use them a lot.

Cheaper sets contain small flaws, not a huge issue when you look at a single poker chip, but massive if you like to stack em up (hi john).!!! In this way the actual weight is not a major issue, anything over 9g is fine. Just remember a good poker set is for life and i wouldnt go for anything under $50, unless your a casual player.

Not shipping to the US at the moment either folks sorry.

First make sure you're getting odds for the flush. Also, sets are played ery differently than other hands, I usually discover sets when there are more than just bet calls everywhere. Try raising/semibluffing a little more (if you don't do it ery often right now) and that can help. Also, just be more careful on paired boards, especially when you're still DRAWING to your hand. It's not just sets with paired boards that are boats, the board could be JJT47 and someone else can have JTs. It's all about betting patterns.

Week 4 I finished 98th so I'm 2 for 2 on chip sets.

Bummer to go out 101st! I had to hold my breath on this one. I wasn't in the money until my last hand was in progress.

I have had crappy cards in the two Weekly Championships played so far. I actually had worse cards in the Week 3 tourney than the Week 4 tourney. I dumped a decent hand in the Week 4 tourney so as not to blow the chip set.

How bad did I play it? I'm pissed...

I had 6k on the 50/100 level.

Normal stack limps 3 off button, chip leader 15k limps CO, I complete in SB with AcTh, BB checks.

Flop is AQ4 all hearts. It checks around to chip leader who bets 300 and I call, everyone else is out. The turn is a black ten, and I lead out 800 into 1200. He sets me all in, and I have 4200 left about.

I called and lost...I'll explain why I called and how I lost after some blind input.

Hey hobbes, I've been using that in rebuys forever on line. It works and although I can't prove it I'm damn near positive it's +EV in almost every case. And the smaller the rebuy buy in the better.

But go one better -- sit there the first hour and play rock poker. Play AA, KK and QQ and limp your pairs to hit sets. Often you can double up once in the hour and end up with an even better chip stack.

When I got into poker more seriously about 18 months ago, I found that a lot of new terminology had popped up.

The one that gets me is the SET. I liked TRIPS. I read somewhere there is a difference between a set and trips, something to do with where the pair sits.

The reason it gets me is this; As we sit at a table, patiently waiting for a hand, often we end up getting several playable hands in a row. Sometimes many playable hands in a row. All of you who know surf will know how wave sets work. And the flow of the cards, to me, most resembles wave sets.

Some may argue this is nonsense. Yet why else would we wait out for what seems forever for the good cards to show. Because it has happened, and does happen repeatedly. Note my silly plug here for my flopology theory found elsewhere.

Recently, on the discovery channel, I watched a show about rougue waves. It had to do with wave sets and chaos theory. Very interesting. Seems that even with predictable wave sets of any fr...

I had that problem earlier today in tourney.

I was chip leader till late stages, even though i was card dead from start but had a few pocket pairs hit sets so made money off of that. Then, nothing... 62, 93, that kind of cards. And youd think you could use your stack but at that point all the lower stacks are going all-in left and right so theres not much way to bully without good cards. Eventually went all-in with kq with k on board and busted out when ace hit on river. was itm though..

Anyone has any advices on how to improve play at that stage? When you have a decent chip stack but not hittin cards, and everyones lookin to double up, dyou just sit and wait for a decent hand or dyou take a chance with say 10-9?

If you are looking for dirt cheap chips (i.e. the infamous "dice" chips that everyone buys first) you can pick a set of 500 up for $30 if you look around enough.

If you are not willing to spend $1 a chip for top of the line clays, I would pick up a simple clay chip set (simple color designs) for around $130-$200. You can get 500 real CLAY (not fake little plastic ones) for around this price. Lots of sites online have deals as well, just run a google search.

For general interest, I know that a company called ChipCo. makes WSOP replica chips with all of the colors and alues exactly the same as in the real thing. However, these sets run ery expensive (1000 chips for $700ish).
