Go on a short hiatus. 7 days. Do not play any poker, you can talk poker, think poker, breath poker, read poker, but not play poker.

I found that for me I was playing too much poker. Beside the chair I wore out, and the back pains from sitting all day, I had a perverted, unreal iew of the game and my ersion of the game.

It may amaze you.....

Topic: What is "perfect poker" Forum: Card Chat

Last days I am really asking the same question. May be not exactly the same, but ery simillar. How to play perfect poker? You know all those strategies, how to play GOOD poker. Like ... you have to raise or re-raise with AA, KK, QQ, JJ, AK, AQ ... so I play it like this and usually some fool calls my raise or sometimes all-in with hand like Q2 suited or 67 offsuited. And then the poker god dosen't look at me and more times stands behind my opponent. And I believe, that I did everything right ... but still I loose.

So, I really want to repeat the question? How to play perfect poker? How the well known poker stars play their on-line tournaments?

Would anyone disagree with me, in response to Feyrun's ery broad question, that poker is poker?

It seems to me that you're trying to make a distinction between how to play online poker s. how you're accustomed to playing poker in a brick & mortar casino. In my opinion, the environment changes but the fundamentals of the game do not. It's still poker. Just play your style.

Focused & Calm. If I'm tense or distracted, I might as well go burn some cash in the fireplace. At least I'd get a little warmth out of it. When I want to play but can't get settled, sometimes I play the play money tables or my poker ideo game. I also might read a poker book or watch a poker show I've recorded. If I'm not in a winning mood, I still gotta feed the habit.

Help! I have no urge to play poker!

I went on a 4 week holiday over Xmas and New Year and didn't play any poker at all. For the first week I did read a bit of Phil Gordon's book to keep my brain thinking of poker but this soon stopped as I was having too much fun on holiday!

Now I've got back I have absolutely no urge to play poker. I didn't come on here for a week whereas before I was on everyday, albeit lurking/reading. I've picked up a poker magazine a couple of times but soon got bored of the articles.
Before I left I was playing poker regularly, enjoying it and making profits.

Has this happened to any of you guys before? Advice?

Exactly. Because you can easily score triple-digit profits in an hour. If folding in poker scored me triple digits per hour, I wouldn't be so critical of it. But it won't.

Playing good poker can, though.

Remember to keep chanting the following:

play great poker
play great poker
play great poker
play great poker

It can only help.

Seriously, why fold every hand? 50-60$ for 7 hours of folding is not something I would ever consider. You can easily play break-even poker, or even make a little profit.

Bad cards breed bad play and maybe (just maybe) all those junk hands I was given just made me play badly. I dunno.

But, not wanting to sound too arrogant, with my current stats as follows:

PKR - UP $500
William Hill - UP $220
Coral Poker - UP $135
Paddy Power Poker - UP $100
Poker Heaven - UP $100
Party Poker - EVEN (Yes, I know, I hang my head in shame)

POKER STARS - DOWN $400!!!

There's something here that's telling me something: No, there's only one thing for it. (Personally speaking) Poker Stars gets wiped from my hard drive, never to return

Topic: How much of a bonus do you clear? Forum: Bonus Whores
Welcome to the boards. A lot of it depends on the player, bonus and the site. This is because some sites are harder than others. I often finish with a profit in just my poker play when at Party, but recently I have rarely been ahead in poker play at the Cryptos.

As a general rule...

1. Clear the full bonus amount and make a profit from playing poker. 35%
2. Clear the full bonus but break even from poker play. 35%
3. Clear the full bonus but lose some of the bonus money from poker play. 25%
4. Lose the full bonus amount during poker play but clear the bonus. 4%
5. Lose the full bonus amount from poker play and don?t clear the bonus. 1%

Topic: IS THERE ANYTHING BETTER??? Forum: Card Chat

this thread can not be answered because it would be different for everyone. Like me for instance I would rather spend time with my wife and Kyle then play poker any day of the week. I would rather go on a cruise with them then play poker, I would rather go to dinner with my wife then play poker.

for you these may not apply and also I dont drink so I could say working is better for me then "playing poker and drinking" im assuming they have to go together so everything would be better for me.

so therfore with this in mind this guy will not have to send any money to anyone because when you say something all he has to do is say "nope thats not better then poker in my eyes" thread is rigged like someone said.

Come on now. AP is a fantastic place to play poker. What you are running into is not bad beats, but a higher quality player.

To attempt to disparage AP for you possible lack of poker skill is a shame.

AP, imo, is one of the TOP places to play poker. It is what I concider my HOME poker room. Though I certainly won't pass up a good bonus elsewhere.

Topic: Things to do when you're not playing to make you play better when you ARE playing. Forum: Card Chat

Here's a few I have found out make me play better while I'm away from the tables.

1. Sleep. Somehow if I'm ery ery tired, like I am right now, I've got a final exam tomorrow and all of next week, I just play ery bad. I make bad decisions, I think negatively. If I'm rested I just somehow feel like I'm "luckier" but it's probably I'm playing better.

2. I'm not hungry.

3. I haven't thought about poker at all in the past 24 hours or more because I'm busy or too occupied with something else.

4. I always seem to play better if I play right after I go work out or go running.

5. I've spent a lot of time since I last played poker doing something else that I enjoy (videogames, reading, sports, watching a movie, ect).

What do you guys do when you're not playing poker that you find make you play better when you ARE playing poker?

Yeah, I'm up over $1k in August alone on casinos. After you sit there and play BJ with $10 bets and watch your $100 swings up and down it feels rather pointless to play small limit poker. It's almost come to the point that I only bother with the best poker bonuses.

Play winning poker. The bonuses will allow you to build your bank roll faster, or if you lose, lose someone else's money. Use Poker Tracker and study your play after each session. Do not play just to win the bonus - learn to win at poker.

Poker Master: You've come for poker wisdom, eager poker player?

(insert your name here): Yes, poker master.

Poker Master: Then, listen and learn for strategy is the key to winning. You must know a bad strategy before you know a good one. One bad poker strategy is to play too many hands. You will win more by folding more often. This sort of discipline is difficult for the novice poker player. The true expert poker players always recommend patience and discipline, and you'll be surprised after watching them in tournament play (not on TV)just how many hands they throw away.

(insert your name here): Thank you Poker Master. You are ery wise.

Poker Master: Go eager poker player, and pratice and use the poker wisdom you've learned and you will receive great rewards.

WHOA!!!!

You are not there to play your best poker. You are there to get the bonus as quickly as possible. Playing good poker is not correct here. You play to get the bonus as fast as possible and NOT lose the money you deposited. Playing good poker has nothing to do with being a bonus whore. You must play good enough, perfect is best but if you play a bunch of tables you won't play your best. Playing 4 tables is a headache but can be done as long as you are playing the same game.

To play good poker you play one table at a time. Also only play hold'em for bonuses. Hands go much quicker than Omaha. Get in get out. Cash out the money and move on. Once your bonuses are done then you can go back and work on your game.

Certainly get one of the other books that deal specifically with the game that you usually play. At the same time go ahead and splurge and buy yourself a copy of The Theory of Poker, it’s worth every penny

shorstacking

in order to play shortstack poker conditions have to be meet.

1. you are taking a shot at a higher limit game, what this means is say you normally play $100 NL with a 2k bankroll. Say you get up to 4k but you dont know if you want to move up yet. Then yes you can play shortstack poker to try out the level 1st.

2. You are playing against people that are ery ery ery aggressive. In this case you can play the shortstack and wait for good chances to shove in. You can only do this if you know they are aggressive players, with a short stack you are not looking to play postflop poker. You are looking to re-steal pots or race. You can not do this at $10NL.
