Hi People,
Like I said in one of my recent posts, I am headed to Vegas next week for a few days. Actually, it's kind of funny, I am actually going there because it is relatively cheap and warm and am not really expecting to do much gambling. All this online gambling has boosted my financial health a little bit but taken a toll on my interest in betting when there are no bonuses to be had.
Anyway, I'm sure some if not all of you go to Vegas fairly often so I thought I'd ask you for some advice. I haven't been there in more than 10 years so I am really unfamiliar with it now.
I am actually hoping for recommendations for good buffets, steaks as well as shows and things to do other than gambling. Any tips? Also, how do you get comps and other freebies which I hear are quite common. I will be staying at the Flamingo which I hope will turn out to be an okay hotel.
Any advice would be warmly welcome with thanks.

AG, do you have any idea how much the dealers would be making in tips? Read the toke sheet and it made absolutely zero sense to me.
The base rate of pay kinda surprised me though - six bucks an hour?!? I make AUD$35 an hour (call it $30 US - we don't get tips) just working corporate functions and bar nights over here, just wondering if the tips would bring it up to anything resembling that kind of rate...

Woody: I think posters at these forums are smart and generally selfdisciplined. I have had fun, excitement, pleasure and profit from online gambling.
AS: It may not be the loss of money by itself that prompts suicides; it may be the prospect of not being able to gamble in the future that tips the scales. I think the article indicated the young man who died just didn't want to have to fight the gambling urge everyday for the rest of his life.

I will be spending the week of April 1st thru 8th at Caesar's in Indiana (near Louisville), to participate in the WSOP Circuit Event.

I plan on playing satellites and cash tourneys with an eye towards the $5000 NLHE Main Event.
They will be having daily $300+40 and $175+25 tourneys as well as satellites and mega-satellites leading up to the Main Event. I'm hoping to have a bankroll of $6000 to $10,000 to devote to this event.
I don't have a lot of live MTT tournament experience and would appreciate some tips from those of you who do.
Poker tips are welcome but would also like some "If I knew then, what I know now" type of tips, and logistics types of tips.
The ast majority of my experience is on-line. Any tips for me to remember as I transition to this live event?

I love the "tips box". I just wonder where do those tips end up?is it something like 95% to he casino. The thing is the dealers get paid probably something like $2 an hour so if they got a $20 tip, that would sound crazy

I need some tips for playing heads up. Please don´t just say: "be aggressive". I need tips like when going all in preflop, how much should i bluff, when i should slowplay, etc.
I know that all depends on the situation, but there are always some general ideas that i can adapt to my game.

My understanding is that it gets up to a sufficient level, although somewhat less than the dealers want to make of course.
$30 is pretty good for the work you are doing, I was getting about $25 for a similar situation.

I forgot to add: tips are a motivational tool. Establishments that pay their service people an hourly wage and ban tips tend to provide terrible customer service unless the shift runner is a whip-cracking tyrant. That's why call centre support usually reeks like rotten dung.

I found the tips from these DVDs to be really useful -- I originally got ahold of the DVDs from my job at Universal, we just started distributing them. Perraud is a great teacher, as far as making everything straight forward and useful for your next game, but there's definitely advanced strategies that I haven't gotten around to applying yet. The other pro tips are useful as always, too.
Anyone else familiar with these, I highly recommend them for the amateur player like myself? Here's some more info on them at this link.

Hello,
Just wondering if anybody could provide some useful poker tips or common actions a person may make in certain situations at a table - offline poker tournaments!
E.g. a player may be bluffing if they lean back, or may have a hand if they lean forward!
Tips like that.. obviously they have to be taken in conjunction with a persons playing patterns and other signals! But they can help!
Thanks

poker dealers here in Tulsa Oklahoma, keep their own tips, but the other tbales games, the share all by shift.
and i always tip the dealer when i win a pot, the 1-2 on small pots and 5-15 depending on the huge stacks i get. and if i won a lot when they are there, i will throw them a nother 20-25 when they leave. and then the next dealers will have already heard or seen it. they become ery friendlyto. make me feel good lol
when i leave, i think, dang, i gave away about 100-125 in tips tonight lol

Nope, it's called good poker. You're obviously not going to be shoving a 30BB stack, but LP steals are essential, and are especially effective against newer players who don't know what you're doing.

| Posted by: ryoung11 at September 18, 2006, 10:35 pm | | Topic: big hands in the blinds Forum: Bonus Whores | hey i was looking for some tips in playing big hands in the blinds preflop. the difficulty is that you are bascially always out of position. the big hands i'm talking about are around the AK to KQ range. with these hands and position you don't have to hit to take down the pot but without it you pretty much have to dump them if you dont connect hard. so if i raise preflop with AK and i miss someone with 22 can bet and i'd have to lay it down.
so anyone have any tips on this? go dr.strange go!

wsorbust,
Unless I read the thread incorrectly I think we're talking cash games. Tournaments is a different story. At my local casino they usually put in a dealer appreciation fee along with the casino fee. ie: $65. + $15. $8. of that $15. is casino fee and $7. is dealer appreciation fee. You tip again (only if you want) if you cash.

I really don't understand the question.
If his tips are -EV (+EV) they're -EV (+EV), no matter how frequently or infrequently we take them. Obviously if they're -EV we should look to take them as little as possible, if they're +EV we should look to take them as often as possible, not because it changes the EV of the bet, but because obviously taking 10 bets with an EV of $10 is better than taking 1 bet with an EV of $10.
Unless this is some kind of weird horse-racing question whereby it would obviously be -EV to take tips on every race because there's no way the tipster could be 'accurate' on every single race, whereas one pick a year would result in a more selective and therefore 'better' tip.
I've probably just completely misunderstood the question, though.
