Topic: Internet Gambling Prohibition Act re-introduced Forum: Bonus Whores
No need to worry. This bill won't go anywhere, just like Goodlatte's previous attempts to do the same thing in the last 3 Congresses didn't go anywhere. At least if it does pass, it will be drastically different--there are just too many special interest groups that oppose this legislation for it to work, Abramoff or no Abramoff. Interestingly, Congressmen from states with legalized gambling have lined up in support of the bill the last couple times--because it protects the quasi-monopoly that their casinos enjoy.

Congressional hearings over the bill in the 106th Congress revealed that law enforcement (FBI, etc.) deemed the bill unenforceable. How is this one any different? Goodlatte just wants to posture...he's up for re-election this year and needs something to distract his voters from the fact that he's been one of the House's biggest supporters of both Bush and the War in Iraq.

Additionally, how long will it take for our government to realize that legislating morality is generally a bad idea?
