I doubt this bill is aimed at eliminating tax avoidance by poker players. There are few winners in on-line poker and even fewer who make big bucks. Unreported poker income is not a significant loss to the income tax system.

This bill and ones like it are a serious threat to our hobby. On-line poker and casinos are a threat to the domestic gaming industry and the state-run lotery games. Additionally, there are religious fanatics who belive that God needs them to help stamp out the sin of gambling. All of these people are going to be noisy. It is important to let your senators and representative know how you feel. (Now it would be far more helpful to pay your representative's costs for a 'fact finding' trip to the Carabean or Las Vegas but few of us have that kind of money - renting a congressman for even one vote isn't cheap.)

If you think you are anonymous and safe playing on-line poker, you are wrong. It is possible to identify your IP addess, track the IP back to your ISP, and from there back to your address. The government has far better resources than the music industry who proved they could accomplish this through the civil courts. Should the government decide they really want to get tough on poker, we will be hard pressed to continue playing.
