I am of the opinion that you are better off playing in some of the donkier lower buyin tournaments. I would avoid throwing half of your $1000 at a big event. That is too much gambling for your bankroll. Hit up tournaments from $22 up to an occasional $55. If you have a big hit in one of those events THEN parlay it into a Sunday Special. If you play non holdem games the tournaments are even softer IMO. O8 and Stud8 tournaments can have soft players and also tend to be far less taggy.
