I’m most interested in a chart that would display a bonus as a rakeback percentage. For example, if bonus “x” was the equivalent of 110% rakeback then I’d rather chase that bonus then play on wsex. This chart is possible to create, all it would take is a little extra number crunching on poker tracker. And, just like the existing grid it would be a rough approximation based on the data that was used. The good news though is that you can crunch these numbers yourself and see what kind of a deal your bonus really was. The following is just one example, based solely on my own results on the recent 10x party bonus.
The poker sites use a formula to determine what amount of rake they return to their affiliates. The formula may be different at some sites, but from what I’ve read on the poker tracker forum the majority use this method: Total rake divided by average amount of players equals that players rake. The total rake and average players can be found on the summary screen of poker tracker. So using this method and my recent Party 10x reload stats we see the following results: Total rake, $367.70/average players, 6.6= my total rake for the promotion $55.71. I received a $75 bonus. So, in this case the bonus is the equivalent of 134% rakeback!
Now, compare that to the affiliate paying 28% rakeback. Not even close. In this particular case the bonus even beats wsex’s 100% rakeback.
Having said that, keep in mind that your results will vary and that not every bonus is as good as the 10x party reload. In other words, each bonus should be compared separately. Site “x’s” particular bonus may or may not beat the 100% rakeback offered at wsex. As mentioned before, if you play only one site or higher limits, rakeback offers become more valuable. For someone like me who skips from site to site, they don’t make much of a difference. If you use the bonus grid and pick the best hourly rate bonuses for your limit, you’re at an excellent starting point. Even if someone creates a chart comparing bonus rates to rakeback rates it will still be an approximation. Okay, I admit it would be nice to not have to do all the work myself. However, the only way you can know for certain what your hourly rate of return or equivalent rakeback percentage was is to analyze the numbers yourself. The above example is one way you can use poker tracker to do this.
Hope this post helps someone. Yes, it’s a novel, but it wasn’t too long ago that I had similar questions myself. Read the forum, get poker tracker, use it, and...hopefully it will all become clear! |
