(1) DISCIPLINE! I learned the hard way to cash out after completing a bonus. When you complete a bonus CASH OUT. At least some of it. Say your up $150 on Party from the bonus chase- take at least $75 out. Or take all of it out for your next bonus whore. Do not be tempted to play much higher levels yet or set unrealistic goals. I was always saying, okay, I've gotten this far, let me go just a little further. Variance or poor play (in my case playing too aggressive after being on a winning streak that cooled off) kick in and bam its gone. Discipline alone has taken me from being a -ev player to a +ev player in the past few months. I keep a few dollars at my favorite site where I can beat up the competition, but I also cash out when I win there. Whenever I hit around 100 or 150 I take 50 out.
(2) Multi-table. If you don't multi table the bonus will take MUCH longer. As a beginner one of the hardest things for me to do was learn to multi table. But it really pays off. You will probably play tighter by default and the bonus will clear 2,3, or 4x faster. If you value your time you will value the much increased hourly earnings. Some people have mastered the art of playing 8 tables or more, I'm more comfortable with 4 or 5 full table and 3 or 4 shorthanded. Some sites aren't really designed well for multi-tabling. This can hinder a bonus.
(3) Grind out all the 5x bonuses first. Then move on to the 10x bonuses. Again, if you value your time and want a higher hourly profit it makes no sense to grind a 10x when there are plenty of 5x's out there.
--I play .50/1 limit shorthanded and 1/2 full table limit mostly these days. 25NL and 50NL too but less often. I started on 25 NL and I still play it sometimes, especially to clear those party bonuses! --maybe one day I'll be moving up, but I'm doing fine at these levels for now-- |
