Many good Texas Holdem players are strategic thinkers who strive to improve their play. Eventually, there's not much more room to improve because you've reached the limits of your abilities. In addition to that, the game itself becomes repetitive. Many of the same situations recur and the same decisions are being made. It becomes less and less of a challenge, and more and more automatic.
When you no longer improve, when the game is repetitive, and when it is no longer challenging, guess what? You become bored.
When I first discovered Texas Holdem I thought, "This is great! It's almost as fun as playing a game of chess, but it pays me money!"
Now I sometimes feel like playing chess for an hour and foregoing the $10-$20 I can make in an hour playing poker.
I am still improving, and I've only played Texas Holdem for a few months, but I can see that eventually, I'll be too bored to play very often at all. |
