For 1 I live in Canada and I dont have to worry about paying taxes on my poker winnings as gambling is not taxable here and what you win in a casino or in the lottery you keep. Secondly, Healthcare here for Canadians is free with whats called a "health card" that you just get renewed every 4 years for free..I dont pay to go to the doctors or the hospital. It's all covered unless I have to have some sort of major surgery. Also the money I make online is American and that also adds an additional 32 cents + (get bush out of office and it might go back to about 50 cents on the dollar) so when I win say $300 a day that turns on to almost $400. I am averaging about $250 per day as of right now and I have a very healthy bankroll. I have been "unemployed" playing poker for the last 18 months or so and have not looked back at all. My earnings per week make the above average making "working" class person cringe.
Now I dont disagree with what you are saying..you make some excellent points and I dont try and get anyone to quit their jobs to do what I do. I have chose this lifestyle and at the age of 29 and have thousands of dollars saved from playing online and live I would never think about going back to work. This is my job and as someone mentioned.. I make my own hours, do what I like when I like, play when I feel like playing, sleep when I feel like sleeping and I have total control of myself as a person. I dont even whore sites really anymore unless it's a reload from party/empire but I play there anyways everyday of the week. I dont really need the reloads but wth..they wanna gimme more money I will take it. Without online poker I will play fulltime at the casinos around here as the 10/20 games are as soft as the 15/30 at party. Only problem with that is the $5 session fee every half hour.
Living on this game is not for everyone but there are a small percentage of people that can make 80K + a year. Now all I have to do is find a woman that can deal with my lifestyle and not ask me the same question..."So when are you gonna get a real job"
