Congratualtions to all that have won during your Whoring days. Do you honestly think that you can quit your job and play this full time? Like my post above said, I have a wife for 7 years, a five year old and another one on the way. I am a 32 year old accountant that works with financial planning. I really want you to consider the following things before you think you are invinceable:
1. Income - This need varies so much. Me in Western Wisconsin can do ok with a $50k a year. If I were in a bigger city $100k would be comparable. Are you making that a year playing cards? Don't think so, and if you are go to the next point...
2. So your making $50k+ a yearplaying cards online. How much are you paying for your benifits (health insurance 401k) you had with your job. Benifits ar usually comperable to 50% of your salary, so now you better be making 75k+ per year. Don't think so, but if so go on.....
3. Are you paying taxes on it? You answered yes... How about paying into Social Sercuity, didn't think so. If you have kids or a wife, there goes their death benifit for them if you die not to mention retirement if your still around.
4. What is going to happen when you need to go back and get your job again. What are you going to put on the your resume for the past 5 years you haven't had a job? I'm sure Bonus whoring will get you far in a Conservative job market.....
This is just a start of why you should not quit your job. Please enjoy your supplemental income, but please don't quit your 8-5 job. Enjoy being a whore.... There should never be a time where you get sick of playing Holdem of any other game. Work on your game to study, re-read those books and get better.
Again, please enjoy being a whore, but use this tool wisely. I don't mean to affend anyone, but please consider this. Another option is use these skills to get a job or write a book.
I'm single and the average income where I live is around 32k. Cost of living is extremely low and it is a good area with a very low poverty rate. My health insurance is 100 a month. 401k doesn't pay off as much as rental properties so I think I'll stick with that. As soon as I get my bankroll to x amount I will buy another property... hopefully within ten years I will be living off of just real estate income and playing poker full time as well. Taxes yes. Social security no. It won't be around when I am old enough to collect it anyways so you can keep your social security. When I need to get back to my job I am a college educated real estate agent and if you know anything about that business you are pretty much self employed... so I can always get a job. I know there are a lot of people that should not do this full time, but at this juncture in my life I have set myself up so that I can live anywhere in the country at any time.... take vacations to anywhere for as long as I want to. What a great way to live if you can do it. Thanks for your concern as it is well directed and for most people you would be correct. Again, if I was a family man I wouldn't even think about it. Even so my period of "unemployment" is only temporary anyways. I just decided to take a few months off between switching jobs.
