From a veteran's perspective, my problem is not usually with the questions, but often with the expectations of the poster. Take the classic question I see fairly often: "Hey, I'm new to the whoring scene. I've got $200, and I want to know what sites I should play on to get the most bang for my buck. I checked out the FAQ, but it was too long and I didn't feel like reading it." (The last part is sometimes said outright, sometimes inferred by the structure of the question.) Where is the motivation for a veteran to help out? The guide is there for a reason, to provide a lot of the basic answers. When a new poster is too lazy to at least try to read it, I don't forsee a lot of value from the poster, as their whoring career will be fairly poor if they aren't willing to put a little legwork into the process. (Impulsive "gimmee" people don't generally do well in this environment.) Or the second reason, when a new poster considers their time "too important" to waste reading a long document and wants somebody to spend THEIR time to tailor-make a plan specifically for them... well, don't see a lot of value there either.
Point is, my time is valuable. I give a LOT of it to this site quite freely, but I'll be damned if I'm going to do so to a newbie who isn't showing some degree of respect to the other posters.
All that said, I don't think the majority of these posts are like that at all. Many people simply are asking pretty much "n00b" questions (we all have them at one point or another), and are fairly easy to usually answer. I can also understand a degree of confusion, and don't mind those questions for the most part. And I especially don't mind people who have read BW101 but are unclear about something in it, and ask specific questions.
Of course, there is really never a reason for a veteran to be an ass about it to all but the most idiotic and insulting of new posters. Just do what I do, and ignore the posts. |
