Forum: Bonus Whores | With all the books, articles, dvds, and web pages out there about how to play poker some of these fish are bound to get better eventually. The thing is, rock solid poker can be pretty damn boring so there will always be people who lack the discipline (or who just like to gamble) to use all that knowledge effectively. But even books can only take you so far, so if you keep improving your game beyond theirs they'll still be fish.
The other thing is that there are huge numbers of underage players who can't play now (or can't play as much as they'd like to) that are just itching to lose all their money when they turn 18 or 21. And the older they get, the more money they'll have to lose.
This is actually kind of a big problem in the U.S. and I'm damn glad I got my college degrees before the online poker boom because I was a pretty mediocre student as an undergrad in part because I played too much poker and I didn't make it through my second Masters/Ph.D. program in large part because I found online poker a hell of a lot more interesting than how some gay French philosopher forced scholars to endlessly debate the meaning of every little word. Fuck Foucault.
With gambling rampant in every level of our education system (even elementary school) I'm wondering if we're slowly creating a society of wannabe poker losers. |
