HR 6663, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Clarification and Implementation Act of 2008 was introduced by Republican congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), which seeks to--as Judy Biggert (R-IL), Jim Gerlach (R-PA), Christopher Shays (R-CT) and Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) requested in their letter--clarify what constitutes legal and illegal under terms of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. "Federal Internet gambling prosecutions have involved sports betting, creating a lack of authoritative court decisions on the applicability of other federal criminal statutes to Internet poker and casino-style gambling," cites the Poker News Daily. Much like Shelley Berkley's HR 2140, Sessions' legislation won't be debated before the House Judiciary Committee until September. Online gambling companies like PartyGaming, 888.com and CryptoLogic would benefit from HR 6663, as they wouldn't be prosecuted for UIGEA-related violations because they withdrew business from the United States following the UIGEA's passage. |
