This only serves as absolute proof as to what a joke the US political system has become.

First they realize that the bill would never pass on it's own merits, so they try to tack it onto a military spending bill, knowing that one was all but guaranteed to pass given the military needs in Iraq.

They get called out on that one and are forced to remove it for having nothing to do with the bill, so they do the same bs trick and tack it onto a spending bill for increasing security at our ports. What this has to do with homeland security is a mystery to me.

Moves like this should be a criminal offense, but sadly, they are not because they are often the only way for shady politicians to fulfill their back room deals with companies that want to bypass the rules, hold onto monopolies, and flat out deceive the American people. The simple fact that the bill could not pass on it's own should show that it is not in the interest of the majority, and such trickery should automatically disqualify the entire bill, not just the net gambling portion.

At the end of the day, all of the tricks and underhanded moves are for naught anyway. What does this bill really accomplish? All it really does is alidate the conditions that the industry has already been operating under for nearly half a decade. No big change there. The only real change is that it would make it a criminal offense for you, I, and the average Joe to place a wager online, and if they want to start prosecuting the millions of Americans that wager online then good luck to them. I don't even know that they have the manpower to police the industry in that manner, and the privacy invasions and rights iolations it would require would bring a mountain of lawsuits against any local government that dared to try.

I will give them this, they are good at scaring people, I suppose. Given the number of sites that have now stopped accepting US wagers, with Will Hill being the latest, but at the end of it all they have nothing but hollow threats, just a bunch of smoke and mirrors, and people should not tolerate it. Stand up for your rights for crying out loud. Pick up the phone and call your representatives, call party headquarters, call the White House. Everyone has the ability to oice their concerns and complaints, but most just want to mutter under their breath without actually doing anything to make their oice heard. If more people would oice their opposition, perhaps this mess would never have made it so far.
