Forum: Bonus Whores | Nearly every site that has shut out US players so far is a publically traded company. The US government's position is quite clear - if you accept wagers from US residents anywhere in the world, you are in violation of US laws and they intend to charge you criminally. The wildcard is (a) if no executives have, or ever plan on, coming to the US, it basically is a "non issue", and (b) most publically traded companies can't operate a business for their sharedholders based on a strategy that is in clear violation of a law. Too much uncertainity.
Hence, Crypto basically said "see you" when they realized that their executives/managers/board members, etc. would all be criminally liable in the US if they took wagers from the US. There is also the possibility of extradition as well - although a good possibility most EU governments would say "uh...no" to an extradition request because of this law, it is still not a chance most normal sane people would be willing to take.
Remember: the law targets our financial institutions AND the people who are taking the wagers from us, not the players themselves. It sucks, but the fallout was pretty much expected. |
