Bwin, the Austrian online betting firm, today denied reports that it was in discussion with PartyGaming to sell a part of it's operation. Karin Klein, a spokeswoman for Bwin, said "We are talking to PartyGaming, like with all other big firms, about lobbying together to show a united stance for the industry in the European Union," She went on to caution that "But we are not talking to PartyGaming about a sale."
It has been a tumultuous time for Bwin. Earlier this year three German federal states imposed a ban on commercial betting. That represented Bwin's key market segment and had immediate fallout for the gaming company. Bwin is fighting the German state's decision. Then in October, Bwin, like many publicly traded gambling companies, stopped accepting bettors from the U.S. after the country passed a ban on internet gambling. Bwin shares lost over 80 percent since the start of the year.
