Depending on how interventionist we want to be, there are several things we can do to help some one with an addiction/impulse problem/depression.

1. Be firm about assigning responsibility. Yes, we go after dishonest casinos. No, we cannot prevent gamblers from wagering money in any damn stupid place.

2.Be firm and consistent in our response. Satire, sarcasm, sheep humor--all of that is lost. (Steve, making gun jokes to someone with depression is a Very Bad Idea.) Everyone should respond with one, simple message: You have a problem. You should not be here. Get help.

3.Start the OPA self-exclusion program, a list of players who have asked to be blacklisted from casinos. Also notify the IGC; this should go into the negative credit database they are developing for casinos. In an ideal world. Some scumbags might target even more marketing to them however.

4.Suggest to problem players that they make chargebacks. This gets them some of their money, and blacklisted.

5.Have links & phone numbers for gambling addiction programs handy.

My sister is a rehab counselor. I offer this advice as an individual.
