I would have to say that I have to disagree with Elizabeth.
Although Dean has an addiction, he is responsible for his actions as long as he is self aware. As a physician, I can say that psychological disorders are divided broadly into neuroses and psychoses. The former is differentiated based on the presence of self awareness. Addiction falls into this category and in a court of law, he has no case.
No, the only way to get better is to take responsibility for your own actions and not blame anybody.
