Perhaps they have chosen the Java route only to power up their "Play for Fun" games for speed and convenience, although like you Spear I find Chartwell a surprising choice.
If, and that's still a big "if" the biggies do start bringing Play for Real casinos online it will be interesting to see whether Harrah's stays with Chartwell or takes the download route.
To be fair to Chartwell I have to say that I think some of their recent casino productions have been pretty cool - unusual and entertaining, particularly to a market segment not necessarily comprised of regular online gamblers. .
