Topic: Promotions and Marketing Forum: Winner Online

Why do casinos run promotions? It's a form of advertising. Hopefully, the long term effects of the promo will be more than the costs. Some casinos have only new player promos while others have promos for their current customers. The aim is the same, to get people to deposit money and play the games, and hopefully come back another day.

First, let me address bonus hustle/abuse. The casinos have to make a distinction between the two. Of course they want the player to come back and play some other time, but why should they. The games at one Microgaming are the same as the next. Same for Starnet or any of the major software companies. (There could be some differences as some of the software compaines let the casinos adjust the payout schedules.) Customer service enters into the equation but there are a lot of 'good' casinos out there. Whenever a player goes online to gamble, there is a casino somewhere offering some sort of incentive to play. Why should a person play somewhere where there are no extras? I don't see how a casino can condemn a player for playing a promotion and playing within the rules.

Let's look at the Tropika Long Weekend promotion. This was a great promo for the players and one of the best I have ever seen. This could have been a great promo from a marketing standpoint for Tropika but they blew it big time. There were several players who got their bonus and winnings taken away because they played forbidden games after they qualified for the bonus. What's wrong with this picture? If a player qualifies and cashes out, he gets accused of bonus abuse. If he continues to play, but makes the mistakes of playing the forbidden craps or roulette, he gets his bonus and winnings taken away. This is a lose/lose situation. The purpose of any promo is to get continuing customers. If a player continues to play after the promo, wouldn't you think that would be a good customer? A customer you don't want to chase away? Why would any business design a promotion to discourage people to spend money and set landmines to destroy the good customers. So here you have Tropika spending a great deal of money and effort to bring in players, then they chase away some of the good ones that they attracted. Pretty bad marketing I would say.
Put that on top of the slow payoffs and they have lost more customers than they have gained.
