LMAO.
Actually, in my opinion, any casino willing to try new things would be a ery big PLUS in my book. Not that I would necessarily subject them to trying out my (or anyone else's) ideas - instead, I would probably hold them up as an example of trying to give more back to the customer.
As for affiliate programs, it's all fine and dandy to have them - in fact, I have some ery good ones which produce well for me - but my aspirations dictate that I take on staff, open offices and things like that - and I cannot jeopardize the stability of that type of an operation by being primarily dependent on affiliate income.
That said, I think this is generally a more suitable model, where casinos and portals share their wins. CPM and CPC, while potentially good for portals, are often losers for the casinos - but sometimes they don't want to share their profits and are willing to put money up front, which suits me fine.
CPA is a double-edged sword as well. If paid in arrears, portals risk getting nothing for their efforts. If paid up front, casinos risk slow or no returns. So the model I propose these days is 50% up front, 50% on completion of delivery - and casinos seems to be reasonably happy with that arrangement, even though more trust is required.
Ideally, some combination of CPA and affiliate deal is probably best - say a casino pay a fixed fee up front, with future earnings as a percentage after subtracting the amount paid for the acquisition, as well as associated costs. I have not yet proposed this to anyone because it would probably require some fine tuning - but I think there must be a middle ground here which suits both casino and portal - and perhaps even leaves room for the money-back situation we've been talking about.
It's still an emerging business. As long as casinos focus on new acquisitions and not on keeping existing players happy, I don't think there can be a real win-win-win situation.

Again, without naming names, there are certain software groups that consistently convert and produce poorly for us. I don't know if it is tracking issue, or just player interest, but we see the same results over and over.
You said it. So I wonder why some affiliate programs come to me and ask why I am not displaying their banners... you would think it is kinda obvious, eh?
I would love to compare stats with you if you'd like, but based on my observations and in talking to other webmasters, I suspect we'd end up with the same list of poorly-paying affiliate programs, or those which are potentially not beneficial from the player's standpoint.
Now where was that webmaster's association that's been talked about - Croupier? I actually had a similar idea many moons ago but webmasters back then simply weren't interested in sharing what they considered to be the tricks of the trade.
Now that things are tightening up a bit, I think there's a need for such an association to highlight portals which are willing to give a fair shake to the player. Informally, there are a few of us that work together anyhow - I think some of you know which portals I am talking about. Come to one of the conferences so we can meet up face-to-face - and I'm sure you'd be a ery welcome addition to our circle of friends
Speaking of which, one of the ery first people I met here was Jerry Garner - and I still have yet to meet him in person. Jetset, too. I'm all for organizing a portal/watchdog/whatever get-together around one of the major conferences, anyone interested?
