Just a guess. Maybe optimal play for the double double bonus includes tossing one unsuited high card to go for the bonus hands.
Example
AH, JC, & three trash cards.
Instead of holding the AH & JC in Jacks or Better you would discard the JC to have a better shot at the 4 aces in Double Double. This would increase the chances of getting nothing.
