Topic: Been naive; just realised some lose big online! Forum: Winner Online

Gamerz: I'm ahead online but welldown on land. Had I not been such a land loser, I'm sure it would have been disastrous for me online. I only gave it a go cos I knew I could get son to take the contraption away if I lost control. I lose 95% of the time on land, often not even getting ahead at any point, even though I enjoy the buzz there. I'm a firm believer in luck, and think it's just not a lucky place for me. A few others I have spoken to find it ery lucky; on small stakes they have won many jackpots/cars/trips/prizes. It's surprising the number of repeat winners there are.

KX: I don't know whether the Swedish will have as many problems being generally better educated and self-disciplined; but IMO they probably will have some. I'm not meaning to sound racist at all, coming from a minority group myself, but I do notice that certain classes/races are predominant at my land casino. This has begun to concern the groups themselves.

Because of the sloppiness of dress and the heavy smoky atmosphere, many of the better-educated and higher-income group stopped playing quite quickly. I recall seeing several doctors in my area there initially, but you never saw them again! The casino then came up with a smaller upstairs casino where better dress was required, but too late, as many of that group had been put right off. My son knows many yuppies who would have gambled regularly but for that. He also knows consultants to the casino and their research indicates the majority of its gamblers come for the poorer educated/lower-income end, i.e. those who could least afford it. It's busiest days seems to be when welfare benefits are credited. He was told also that those who win big lose it back within a few months (can't remember how many though).

Initially minimum slot was l0c. Now, as those with more money have gradually lost all, 1 - 2c slot machines abound, because of trying to rope in those with ery little money.

One son never gambles there, while the other hardly ever (despite being a dealer there briefly while at university) yet the casino sends them almost as much as me (who isits lots) to entice them. More recently they have begun handling out slips for $2 to win a car (on slots) so as to get them into the casino as so many previous players have lost all their money.

I'm not blaming casinos or saying that gambling is bad. It's just that the casino has taking its toll and my own experience is that I would not want a casino built here if I had the choice again! If someone who is as responsible, sensible and frugal as me can get as addicted, just because a casino is l0 minutes away, then heaven help those less so! Fortunately I've managed to get some back and am keeping spending to what my son spends on yachting, which to me is the most BORING thing to do even though I know it's a wonderfully healthy/addictive interest FOR OTHERS!
