Yes, your comment is correct. This had long been what the Mainland China doing to its people.

Regarding the new legislation of HK, it will cover all internet gambling by writing. But in effect I think it's pinpointed largely to sports betting, soccer in particular.

The ever intensifying situation in offshore soccer betting in the past 3~4 years gave birth to today's legislation. This issue had been kicking around for heated arguments amongst the govt. officials & legislators for more than 2 years.

Anyhow, this legislation has a threatening effect to gamblers by large, many may not run the risk of a few months imprisonment, some are taking a wait-and-see attitude. Sadly, this law produces quite a negative impact in the short term for sure.

However, there are still millions of keen Chinese gamblers who can legally gamble in Taiwan, Macau & every corners overseas.
